Shanghai Disneyland Dedication Ceremony

Shanghai Disney Resort Turns 10 Years Old

10 years ago today, Shanghai Disney Resort officially opened to the public. Before Shanghai Disneyland officially opened, there was a dedication ceremony. During this ceremony, former Disney CEO Bob Iger dedicated this new Disney destination. He said, “To all who come to this happy place, welcome. Shanghai Disneyland is your land. Here you leave today and discover imaginative worlds of fantasy, romance, and adventure that ignite the magical dreams within all of us. Shanghai Disneyland is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese. It was created for everyone bringing to life timeless characters and stories in a magical place that will be a source of joy, inspiration, and memories for generations to come.”

The full ceremony can be seen below. It included words from the then-mayor of Shanghai and the vice premier of the State Council of China. The vice premier noted that the rain was a good sign for the future of Shanghai Disneyland. There was also a ribbon cutting, which can be seen below. This ceremony was full of pomp, circumstance, and Disney magic. Watch it here:

Shortly after, Shanghai Disneyland opened to the world, and guests came streaming in. One of the first hundred or so of these guests was Murray the Bellhop. After waiting in line, he streamed in with all the other guests for a magical day at this brand-new Disney park. Below are videos he took on the opening day of Shanghai Disneyland.

Murray also shared about his adventures in the park and the park itself. All of his coverage of Shanghai Disney Resort through the years can be found in the following articles. This includes his tours and thoughts about the opening day of Shanghai Disneyland.

10 years later, Shanghai Disney Resort has grown more than many could have imagined it would as quickly as it has. It now has nine lands. It will soon have four hotels. It continues to grow and be a living testament to Walt Disney’s original vision for the original Disneyland when he said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” Shanghai Disneyland is showing that it plays by the same rules. It continues to be a beacon of Disney magic that brightens up the world and makes people happy. Happy Birthday, Shanghai Disneyland!
