‘Tis the season for spreading merriment and cheer. Recently, Bob Iger sent a holiday message out to D23 Members. Today, Kermit the Frog joined in on the fun to wish D23 fans happy holidays on behalf of all of the Muppets at Muppet Studio. The following video was released with Kermit’s seasons’ greetings by D23:
The message comes as The Muppets celebrate their 70th anniversary. The Muppets first appeared in the series Sam and Friends in 1955. This continued until 1961. Through the 1960s, the Muppets appeared on late-night television shows and advertisements before becoming a staple in 1969 on Sesame Street. From 1976–1981 they achieved celebrity status with The Muppet Show. This led to movies, television shows, specials, in Disney Parks, and eventually digital videos on social media and YouTube.
Today the Muppets are a property of The Walt Disney Company and operate within The Muppet Studio. They appear in Disney Parks on occasion and also make special appearances on programs. At this time, there isn’t any movie or television series publicly in the works. However, it was recently announced that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will soon become a Muppets-themed attraction. This comes with the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D at Walt Disney World Resort to make way for a Monsters, Inc.-inspired land. Here is a look at Muppet*Vision 3D as was seen earlier this year:
