On September 5, 1976, The Muppet Show debuted. 50 years later to the day, The Muppet Show special event earned four Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The show, which was released earlier this year, earned the following Emmy Awards on Saturday night:
- Best Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)
- Best Writing for a Variety Special
- Best Picture Editing for Variety Programming
- Best Production Design for a Variety Special
There is still a chance for The Muppet Show special event to earn another Emmy Award. This would be for Best Character Voice-Over Performance for Matt Vogel as Kermit the Frog. If earned, it would be during Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards. In total, The Muppet Show special event earned six Emmy nominations. They were for the following categories:
- Outstanding Writing For A Variety Special
- Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special
- Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming
- Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance – Matt Vogel
- Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)
- Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special
The Muppet Show arrived on Disney+ and ABC on February 4, 2026. It hearkened back to the original episodes of The Muppet Show, with different acts and moments taking place throughout the special. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee were also executive producers for Point Grey Pictures; David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, and Michael Steinbach were also executive producers for The Muppets Studio; Sabrina Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel, and Eric Jacobson round out the group of executive producers.

Originally, it was said that The Muppet Show special event would act as an unofficial pilot for a revival of the series. However, there still haven’t been any updates regarding the future of any potential Muppet series. Fans are eagerly awaiting any news regarding the future of The Muppet Show, with most hoping for a series pickup. For now, these wins will have to be celebrated, and hope that they will provide a push for Disney and The Muppets to bring this series to Disney+ sooner rather than later.
