On what would have been Jim Henson’s 90th birthday, Netflix and Sesame Street announced that they have extended their partnership. With this extension, more seasons of the beloved series will be developed. On top of that, a new movie is also being made.

The new Sesame Street movie is being developed with Rideback and Sesame Workshop. No details have been revealed about this yet. However, that isn’t the only news to come from Sesame Street. The deal between Netflix and Sesame Workshop has been extended significantly. This will see new seasons of the show continue to be delivered through season 62. This comes ahead of the debut of Season 57 Volume 4 on November 23. Volumes 5 and 6 will be arriving in 2027.
This is very positive news for fans of Sesame Street. The popular children’s series has faced some challenging headwinds in recent years. Some of this has come from changing viewing trends among younger audiences and more offerings that have been made available. This has led to format changes in recent years for the series. The changing business environment also led to the show being broadcast on HBO first in 2015 before airing nine months later on PBS stations and websites. In 2025, Sesame Workshop found a new partner with Netflix. With this arrangement, new episodes are now aired on both Netflix and PBS on the same day and date.
The continued partnership between Netflix and Sesame Workshop comes as the streamer continues to invest in children’s programming. Netflix continues to add more offerings aimed at young viewers as they look to broaden its appeal. “We’re curating a slate of favorite-worthy series, films, and games to serve kids at every age and stage of their development. Whether that’s spending more time with Gabby and her adorable sister Doozie, meeting the crew of Puppy Pirates for the first time, or growing up alongside more Sesame Street, we’re building a place parents can feel good about,” shared Heather Tilert, Vice President, Animation Series, Kids + Preschool. “A place filled with great stories, beloved characters, and enriching games kids will want to come back to again and again.”
