“Ahsoka” Star Confirms When Series Takes Place in Star Wars Timeline

Ahsoka, the new Star Wars series on Disney+ will be arriving on the streaming service next month. In general, it has been known that Ahsoka will be taking place between the events of the Original Trilogy and Sequel Trilogy. However, thanks to an actress on the series, where this series takes place in the overall Star Wars timeline has been narrowed down significantly.

The star who shared about the timeline is Natasha Liu Bordizzo. She plays the live-action version of Sabine Wren in the upcoming series. In an interview with SFX, she was asked about being in a Star Wars series and if she got the sense that this series was just one chapter in a bigger book of the Star Wars timeline.

“I think it’s hard not to feel part of something bigger,” Bordizzo replied. She also confirmed when the series will be taking place saying, “Ahsoka runs along the same timeline as The Mandalorian season 3, and the shows are all connected. There’s just so many parallels.”

Ahsoka is one of several series taking place during this time that is building to a bigger “climactic” movie that will be directed by Dave Filoni.

“When I heard they were doing the movie, at Celebration in London [in April], I was like, ‘Maybe one day I’ll find out whether I’m a part of that!’” she laughed to SFX. “This is one of those times when I can so happily tell you I have no idea what’s going on with that. I’m happy not to, because that way I don’t have to lie to you!”

It has been speculated that this film could end up being an Avengers type movie in the world of Star Wars. Dave Filoni talked about that during an interview with EW’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast that he was on with Jon Favreau.

“We’re in the right area code,” Filoni says. “We are definitely in the right space. I think it’s going to be a clamoring of characters saying, ‘How do I get in this picture?’ And that’s what Jon and I have been figuring out.”

Jon Favreau added to the discussion saying that there are a lot of different characters that could appear in this film, potentially some that aren’t canon. “When I was younger, we didn’t have movies, but there were comic books, there were novels, things that are encompassed in the [expanded universe] or Legends,” Favreau said. “Clearly, there are decisions that have to be made to fit it all together, but for us, I think one thing we’re in agreement about is that the characters — as special as they are — the story has to drive what characters are.”

Filoni seconded the importance of the story driving the characters as well. “As we are getting deeper and deeper into this,” Favreau explains, “you start to have to really map things out and figure out what that story is, and then have those characters fulfill what their growth cycle is and what their mythic hero’s journey is. Those things have to fit together well. Otherwise, it won’t feel like Star Wars.”

As Ahsoka arrives on Disney+ on August 23, 2023, the timeline of where this series takes place will be during the third season of The Mandalorian. With Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau’s vision and storytelling, this will be a part of a bigger story that has been mapped out and heads to this bigger movie. In the coming days, months, and years, Star Wars fans will be guessing how exactly all of these puzzle pieces (or LEGO?) fit together to make something bigger and more amazing.
