MagicBand+ will soon be live at the Disneyland Resort. Today, Disney announced that the new wearable technology would be debuting to general guests at the Disneyland Resort on October 26, 2022. For Magic Key Holders, access will be granted on October 19, 2022. MagicBand+ will be opening up new immersive ways to experience the magic of the Disneyland Resort.

MagicBand+ Arrival

Magic Key Holders, eligible cast members, and Disney Vacation Club members will get a first opportunity to purchase MagicBand+ at the Disneyland Resort. MagicBand+ will be available at select locations starting on October 19th and offer a first look at what they can do ahead of the official launch. To purchase, Magic Key holders, and other eligible early purchasers will need a valid photo ID along with Magic Key, Disney Vacation Club membership, or a valid company-issued ID. Once purchased, the band will be able to set up and experienced in the parks. Note: the MagicBand+ may need charging before a full day’s use in the parks.

MagicBand+ will be available for Magic Key holders on October 19th at the following locations:

  • Disneyland Park – Starcade
  • Disney California Adventure Park – Super Store featuring Avengers Campus
  • Downtown Disney District – Building adjacent to Star Wars Trading Post

Magic Key discounts apply and Magic Key holders will also receive $10 off the specially-designed Magic Key band. Magic Key holders will also be able to use the Magic Key discount on available MagicBand+ designs at select locations throughout the Disneyland resort.

When they become available for all guests on the 26th, MagicBand+ will be found at the following locations:

MagicBand+ will be available in more than 18 colors and designs when they launch. This will include five prints that are exclusive to the Disneyland Resort. There will also be a MagicBand+ designed specifically for Magic Key holders. They will only be available while supplies last. There will be more designs coming in the future after the launch.

MagicBand+ Experience

MagicBand+ will be able to be used to enter Disneyland Resort theme parks (with reservation and valid admission), check in at Lightning Lane entrances (separate Lightning Lane entry required), and also link photos from a Disney PhotoPass photographer to a Disney account.

Another thing MagicBand+ will do is unlock new storytelling experiences as the technology comes to life with color-changing LED lights and haptic vibrations. This will happen during specific park experiences and entertainment. The Disney Parks Blog teased that the MagicBand+ will lead to some additional magical experiences at Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure.

At night the MagicBand+ will come to life during nighttime spectaculars. It will illuminate and pulse in sync to special moments during World of Color in Disney California Adventure and also Fantasmic at Disneyland. This experience will also come to life during other select nighttime shows at the Disneyland Resort throughout the year as well. When the two new nighttime spectaculars arrive in January for the Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebration, MagicBand+ will also be coming to life with these shows.

Guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland will be able to use MagicBand+ to experience Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters interactive quest. Doing this, they will seek out virtual bounties throughout Black Spire Outpost and then use the Play Disney Parks app and its augmented reality thermal viewer to find out who’s really hiding in the shadows.

MagicBand+ will work at both Disneyland and also Walt Disney World Resort. Each resort will have unique features and experiences. The features announced for the Disneyland Resort with MagicBand+ are just the first step. Disney shared that more innovations and experiences will be coming in the future.

Setting Up MagicBand+

Once a guest has purchased a MagicBand+, setting it up is quite simple! In fact, it only takes three steps.

  1. Power on the MagicBand+ by pushing on the button on the back
  2. Tap the MagicBand+ to the back of your phone and then open or download the Disneyland app (it will tell you too)
  3. Follow the instructions on the Disneyland app to link the MagicBand+ to your Disney account, assign it to a ticket, and also pair it to your smartphone

It is a good idea to fully charge the MagicBand+ before using the band in the parks for a full day. MagicBand+ is rechargeable and comes with a USB charging cable. According to Disney, a fully charged battery on a MagicBand+ can last between one and three days. It is suggested that once a MagicBand+ is charged it should be powered off until ready for use. MagicBand+ is also waterproof so will be safe on water rides.

To get the most out of MagicBand+, it is suggested that it is linked to a Disney account and connected to the Disneyland app. For more information, visit or go to the Disneyland App and use the “Chat with Us” feature.
