Disney Believe Keel-Laying Coin

Disney Believe Celebrates a Major Milestone!

The first gigablock of the Disney Believe recently was revealed by the Disney Cruise Line. The ship, which is being built in Papenburg, Germany, at the Meyer Werft Shipyard, is scheduled to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in late 2027! Later today, more details will be revealed about this new ship that will be inspired by some of Disney’s most beloved stories, including Disney Animation’s Encanto, Frozen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Moana, and The Little Mermaid. There will be incredible Broadway-style entertainment, immersive and delicious dining, and no shortage of Disney magic found aboard this ship.

Ahead of the announcement this afternoon, the Disney Cruise Line revealed that the Disney Believe is celebrating a major milestone in the construction of any ship. This is the official keel-laying ceremony. This comes as the construction of the ship’s second gigablock is underway. The keel-laying ceremony is a longstanding maritime custom that dates all the way back to ancient Greece and Rome. Generally, it involves a specially crafted coin that is ceremoniously placed, temporarily, under the ship’s keel.

The tradition of the keel-laying ceremony is said to bestow good fortune on the ship and its future crew before it sets sail. For this ceremony, a custom-minted coin that carried the image of Tinker Bell was utilized. This portrait of Tinker Bell mirrors the artwork that will be seen on the bow of the Disney Believe when it takes to sea.

Disney says that Tinker Bell’s image will “imbue the ship with a sprinkle of faith, trust, and pixie dust.” This will help guests who sail aboard this ship believe in the promise and possibility of dreams coming true.

More details about the Disney Believe will be revealed during a special livestream later today. Daps Magic will be covering this special event. All of the details and news about Disney Believe can be found on the Daps Magic page that is dedicated to this magical ship.
