Disneyland Resort to Begin Disney100 Celebration on January 27, 2023

The Disneyland Resort will begin celebrating 100 years since Walt and Roy Disney founded The Walt Disney Company with the Disney100 celebration on January 27, 2023. Disney announced this date along with some details for the celebration this morning. This is a global celebration of this historic milestone and the heart of it will be at the Disneyland Resort. Disney100 celebration will have limited-time offerings throughout the year.

Disneyland Goes Platinum

Part of the celebration will have the Happiest Place on Earth getting decorated. For the 100-year celebration, the decorations will be platinum infused. Sleeping Beauty Castle will be decorated for the celebration with platinum banners and bunting. There will also be “a magnificent cabochon featuring the three Good Fairies who illuminate it with their shimmering pixie dust,” Disney shared. Along with all of that, two new water fountains will be placed in the moat on either side of the drawbridge. A wishing star will also be placed on Sleeping Beauty Castle as well.

There will also be new outfits for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and friends. Guests visiting the Disneyland Resort will also be able to experience special food and beverage offerings, merchandise, and more.

Disney100 Nighttime Spectaculars

Two new nighttime spectaculars will bring the night to life at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. They will bring magic and music to the guests experiencing evenings at either parks at the Disneyland Resort.

Wondrous Journeys

Disneyland will come to life at night with Wondrous Journeys. This will bring Walt Disney’s original magic kingdom to life as the park itself becomes a “magnificent canvas” Disney shared. This show will “ignite the wonder in all of us.” As guests watch the night light up during Wondrous Journeys, they will see nods to every Walt Disney Animation Studios film to date. This is a show that will take guests on a journey that is filled with “artistry, music, storytelling and heart” Disney shared. This show will continue to move forward with the park’s projection effects. These state-of-the-art projections will turn Main Street, USA, Sleeping Beauty Castle, the facade of it’s a small world, and also the Rivers of America into a beautiful artist canvas that will bring characters to life all around. Wondrous Journeys will also have fireworks added to the show on select nights in the sky above Disneyland. It will also feature the new song It’s Wondrous, which debuted at D23 Expo 2022.

World of Color – One

At Disney California Adventure, World of Color – One will bring to life Paradise Bay at night as it celebrates the storytelling legacy that was started by Walt Disney a century ago. Disney shared a description of the show: “It will tell a new story of how a single action, like a drop of water, creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change. It brings some of the most courageous, loving and inspiring characters to life in new ways.” The show will also debut a new original song called Start a Wave.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway to Open Ahead of Mickey’s Toontown

Mickey’s Toontown will be reopening for guests sometime in the spring of 2023. As part of Disney100 however, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be opening ahead of the land’s opening as part of the launch of the Disney100 anniversary celebration on January 27.

Magic Happens and More Entertainment

Magic Happens will be returning to Disneyland after its very brief run in 2022. Just in time for spring, the parade will be again making magic along the parade route at Disneyland. When the parade opened in 2020, it had over 90 performers, nine floats, and two floats. They could be seen in the following units: 

  • A Swirl of Magic – Mickey Mouse
  • A Wave of Magic – Moana
  • A Bridge to Magic – Coco
  • A Magical Forest – Frozen II
  • A Magical Dream – Grand Finale
    • The Pumpkin – Cinderella
    • The Sword – The Sword in the Stone
    • The Kiss – The Princess and the Frog
    • The Once Upon a Dream – Sleeping Beauty

The parade was an instant hit when it was initially introduced and Disney fans have been eagerly anticipating its return.

There will be other magical entertainment moments popping up throughout the Disneyland Resort for Disney100 as well. Disney promises to share more news and updates about the Disney100 celebration throughout the Disneyland Resort and beyond. Currently, theme park reservations for both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are available only through January 8th. Disney promises that these will be extended in the coming weeks.
