This summer was to have been the celebration of the Disneyland Resort All-American College Band’s 50th anniversary. Due to COVID-19, this, unfortunately, didn’t happen. However, members of the 2017 Disneyland Resort All-American College Band got together virtually to bring some music magic to the summer.
The video begins with an introduction by Dr. Ron McCurdy, the band shared the spirit of the college band with the song Zero to Hero from Hercules. The band performed a version of this song during its jazz set during the 2017 summer season. This is an all-new arrangement by band member Keegan Riley. Barry Martin performs the vocals. The video editing was done by Nathan Hatton.
Zero to Hero – 2017 Disneyland All-American College Band
The Disneyland Resort All-American College Band is a program that the Disneyland Resort offers each summer where college students from around the USA come together to perform at the Disneyland Resort for 11 weeks. This program gives students the chance to see what it is like to work in the professional entertainment industry.
For most summers, the college band performs both in a sit-down jazz band setting and also several marching band sets daily at the Disneyland Resort. They are also joined by guest clinicians during their jazz sets regularly. These clinicians have included Steve Houghton, Wayne Bergeron, Gregg Field, John Clayton, Jiggs Whigham, and Rick Baptist, and more. The clinicians bring first-hand knowledge of what the music industry is like and share that experience and wisdom with the band. Throughout the program, band members focus on an emphasis on one of the following: Composition and Arranging; Careers in Music; Recording and Production.
The 2020 Disneyland Resort All-American College Band was suspended due to COVID-19. It is hoped that the band will be returning next summer and bring its special music magic back.
