Looking Forward at The Walt Disney Company’s Schedule of Movies For 2019

With the recent release of movie trailers from The Walt Disney Company for Toy Story 4Dumbo and The Lion King, it is readily apparent that 2019 is going to be a fun year for movies. However, those aren’t the only movies coming out from The Walt Disney Company in 2019. There are several others that shouldn’t be forgotten.

Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019

Set in the 1990s, this is the story of how Carol Danvers becomes one of Earth’s mightiest superheroes. The movie stars Brie Larson in the title role and appears to connect with Avengers 4. It also will have the return (is it a return if it is in the past) of Agent Coulson and Nick Fury! You can read more about it here.

Dumbo – March 29, 2019

This live-action remake of the original Disney animated classic looks to melt hearts once again as Dumbo makes his way to the big top. It looks to have a fantastic cast that includes Michael Keaton, Eva Green, Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, and more! You can read more about it here.

Avengers 4 – May 3, 2019

Avengers: Infinity War

After the shocking ending of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel fans can’t wait for this movie to arrive in theaters… or can they. This should wrap up many storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe while also kicking off some new ones. Are you ready for this one?

Aladdin – May 24, 2019

Aladdin will be hitting the big screen again this May. With a live-action cast, this musical re-telling of the story of the diamond in the rough looks to recapture much of the magic of the original animated classic. The film is being directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine. Will Smith will be playing The Genie.

Toy Story 4 – June 21, 2019

Toy Story 4 will bring Woody, Buzz, and the gang back again. This time, under the direction of Josh Cooley. It also will be introducing some new friends. One of these new friends is a toy named Forky. Forky finds himself trying to figure out what his purpose is as he is supposed to be an eating utensil but now finds himself a toy. If the previous films are any indication, Toy Story 4 is going to be an emotional roller coaster that people are going to love in 2019.

The Lion King – July 19, 2019

The Lion King is returning and just like The Jungle Book before it, there will be a lot of similarities to the original animated feature. Directed by Jon Favreau, this is a live-action looking movie with some incredible CGI. Donald Glover will be portraying Simba, James Earl Jones will again voice Mufasa, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner will be Pumba and Timon, with John Oliver as Zazu. This looks like it will be a stunningly beautiful movie and could introduce The Lion King to a whole new audience.

Artemis Fowl – August 9, 2019

Based on Eoin Colfer’s book series of the same name, Artemis Fowl tells the story of the title character battling against a powerful hidden race of fairies who could be behind his father’s disappearance. It looks to have a fairly solid cast that includes Judi Dench, Josh Gad, and newcomers Ferdia Shaw and Lara McDonnell. It is being directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Frozen 2 – November 27, 2019

The main cast of Frozen is returning for Frozen 2 just in time for Thanksgiving next year. Beyond that, there really isn’t a whole lot known about the plot for this film. It will be a musical with Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad returning to the cast. Expect more details to come out sometime next year as the release date gets closer. Frozen 2 is being directed by the directors of the original Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck.

Star Wars: Episode 9 – December 20, 2019

The final film in the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: Episode 9 will wrap up a storyline that began in 1977! Under the direction of J.J. Abrams, the movie will follow the events of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. It will also include a steller cast!

  • Daisy Ridley
  • John Boyega
  • Oscar Isaac
  • Adam Driver
  • Lupita Nyong’o
  • Domhnall Gleeson
  • Kelly Marie Tran
  • Joonas Suotamo
  • Billie Lourd
  • Naomi Ackie
  • Richard E. Grant
  • Keri Russell
  • Mark Hamill
  • Anthony Daniels
  • Billy Dee Williams
  • Carrie Fisher

This won’t be the end of Star Wars though but in many ways, just the beginning. With new television shows coming to Disney+, more movies, and even lands being developed in Disney theme parks, there is a LOT to look forward to from the galaxy far, far away.

2019 should be quite the year for movies from The Walt Disney Company. Currently, this list doesn’t include any of the movies being released by Fox next year which will come under the Disney umbrella, pending its acquisition sometime in 2019. It also doesn’t include the movies being developed for Disney+, the new Disney streaming service. There are quite a few interesting things in the works over there as well. What it does include are the films that will be released in 2019 on the big screen in the United States. It looks like there is a lot to be excited about! Which one are you most looking forward to?
