As a child of the 80s, I grew up watching Sesame Street regularly. I grew up seeing Kermit the Frog as a newscaster quite frequently on the show, and the arrival and then the explosion in popularity of Elmo. In older movies from The Muppets, it was always fun to see a Sesame Street character make a cameo. After The Muppets were sold by the Jim Henson family, ultimately landing at Disney, these collaborations all but disappeared. This will soon be changing, however. The Muppets from both camps will be coming together again.
A video was released by Sesame Street that announced a new halftime show for the FIFA World Cup Final this summer. This will take place on Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It will also see the Sesame Street Muppets and Disney Muppets coming together as part of this show, along with several other big acts. The event will raise money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. The show is being put together by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who also helped announce the following video:
Joining Kermit, Elmo, Miss Piggy, Cookie Monster, Animal, and others for this show curated by Chris Martin will also be Madonna, Shakira, and BTS. Together, they will raise funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, improving access to quality education and football for children around the world.
