Ahsoka

Second Season of ‘Ahsoka’ in Development

Ahsoka is getting a second season and is currently in development. Earlier today, during an announcement about the new The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, it also was revealed that Dave Filoni is now working the second season of this live-action Star Wars series. One of the last lines in the announcement confirmed the future projects that are in the works for Star Wars.

The announcement said, “The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works.”

This was the first direct confirmation of a second season for Ahsoka. There had been rumblings that something could happen. In 2023, Dave Filoni was promoted to Chief Creative Officer for Lucasfilm. During a Vanity Fair profile on Filoni at the time, it said that he was “exploring” a second season of Ahsoka. Hop over to Ahsoka actor Rosario Dawson who said in November in an interview that “he did say [Filoni] was working on an outline. So, we’ll see.” This was the closest to a confirmation for a second season of Ahsoka that had been shared. However, Dawson also was quick to confirm that nothing was being said “officially” about it at the time.

With the second season of Ahsoka now officially in the works, there are lots of story possibilities that could be explored for Ahsoka and those around her. Many of these will continue the stories of Star Wars Rebels characters that have made the leap from animation to live action. This will clearly include Ahsoka herself but there are also the stories of Sabine, Hera, Ezra Bridger, and of course Grand Admiral Thrawn to name a few.

The second season of Ahsoka joins quite the growing collection of stories being developed for the Star Wars universe. This includes the aforementioned The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. There are also other movies and television series in the works. This year will see the arrival of The Acolyte, The Bad Batch Season 3, Skeleton Crew, and Tales of the Jedi Season 2 in 2024. Moving forward there will also be the second season of Andor, the Rey Skywalker film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold’s film about the dawn of the Jedi, and the Mandoverse film directed by Dave Filoni. There is also a Taika Waititi Star Wars film and Shawn Levy Star Wars film supposedly in the works still as well.
