With all of the announcements and changes that happen in the world of production, it can be hard to keep up with what is being released and when. This is particularly true when it comes to Star Wars. While there hasn’t been a new movie released in theaters in the last few years, there have been plenty of live-action and animated series on Disney+. Moving forward, there will be more movies and also series. Below is a look at what is coming to a galaxy far, far away in 2024 and beyond.

Tales of the Jedi Season 2 | TBD
Starring: Unknown
The first season of Tales of the Jedi focused on the backstories of Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. At Star Wars Celebration Europe, creator Dave Filoni said, “Tales of the Jedi was so fun the first time, I decided to do some more.” Not much more is known about the second season of this series at this point. What is known is that the second season will be arriving sometime in 2024.
Star Wars in 2025 and Beyond
Andor Season 2 | TBD
Starring: Diego Luna, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough
The second season of Andor was originally scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in 2024. However, due to writers and SAG-AFTRA strikes, things got slowed down a bit. Instead it is now looking like Andor will be arriving on Disney+ in 2025. With 12 episodes, it will continue the story as left off at the end of season one and take the characters right up to the start of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Untitled Rey Skywalker Film | TBD
Starring: Daisy Ridley
There isn’t a ton known about this project beyond some very basic information. Daisy Ridley will be returning to the role of Rey Skywalker. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct it. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared the following about the film to Variety:
“Well, we’re 15 years out from ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ so we’re post-war, post-First Order, and the Jedi are in disarray. There’s a lot of discussion around, ‘Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What’s the state of the galaxy?’ She’s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.”

In another interview with Empire, Kennedy shared more about the movie:
“The First Order has fallen, the Jedi are in chaos – there’s even a question of how many exist anymore – and Rey’s building the New Jedi Order, based on the text that she was given and that Luke imparted on her.” She also offers, “Rey has made a promise to Luke, and that’s really the core of where we’re going and what this story will be. And I think it offers just tremendous opportunity to introduce new characters and start with something fresh, because we culminated with what George [Lucas] was creating, and now we take all of that and move it to the next chapter.”

In another interview, Ridley has shared with Collider, “I’m very excited. The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.” In another interview with the The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley said, ”I’m genuinely really excited about the next one [Star Wars movie]. I haven’t read anything, but I know the story. It’s really worth telling, worth exploring, and I think people will be excited.”
Filming is expected to begin on this movie in April 2024.
Untitled Dawn of the Jedi Film | TBD
Starring: TBD
This yet-to-be-titled film will take Star Wars on an adventure that takes place 25,000 years before Star Wars: A New Hope. Directed by James Mangold, this film looks to explore the origins of the Force and the Jedi. The original press release for this movie said that “James Mangold will take audiences deep into the past, telling the tale of the first Jedi to wield the Force and harness it as a liberating power in an era of chaos and oppression.”
In an interview with Empire, James Mangold shared about the movie. “I told Kathy [Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm] I wanted to make a kind of Bible movie, a kind of Ten Commandments of Star Wars – kind of a Cecil B DeMille film about the arrival of the Force, and that’s what I’ve been pecking away at between press events. That’s the idea,” Mangold said.
Untitled Mandoverse Film | TBD
Starring: TBD
Disney has shared that the untitled Mandoverse film “will focus on the New Republic, and close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series.” It is being directed by, the recently promoted to Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer, Dave Filoni. A release also said that ““Dave Filoni will orchestrate the escalating war between the Imperial Remnant and the fledgling New Republic.” Presumably this will wrap up the main story being told by Lucasfilm for Din Djarin, Grogu, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and perhaps even Ahsoka and the now live-action characters that made the leap from the animated Star Wars Rebels. It might not be the end of all of their stories, however, as anything can happen in Star Wars.
Untitled Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Film | Unknown
Starring: TBD
The Taika Waititi Star Wars film has been in the works for quite some time, and appears that this will continue. However, it is still continuing. Recently on the Kelly Clarkson show, he shared about the movie and what he wants to get out of it.
I’ve been developing [the Star Wars film] for a few years, but I think with any film, but that one in particular, it’s something I’d really like to get right so I don’t want to rush it. It’s going to bubble along on the side. I wanna capture that joy and entertainment of those early ones like The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and all those ones, so I’m trying to figure that out. It’ll happen.
Taika Waititi – Kelly Clarkson Show
What exactly this Star Wars movie will be about is a complete mystery. All that is really known is that it will expand the Star Wars universe further.
Untitled Shawn Levy Star Wars Film | Unknown
Starring: TBD
Another Star Wars film that remains incredibly mysterious is the one being directed by Shawn Levy. There are no details known about this film and a release date isn’t known either. Levy did share the following about the movie to variety:
When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a “Star Wars” movie, her central mandate to me was “I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a ‘Star Wars’ story.” So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.
Shawn Levy – Variety
