For years Muppet fans have clamoured for Disney to release all five seasons of The Muppet Show. Today, they got their wish. This morning it was announced that all five seasons of the show will be coming to Disney+. It will arrive on the streaming platform on February 19, 2021. This marks the first time that seasons four and five will be available for home viewers to enjoy. They had not been previously released for home entertainment.
The Muppet Show originally premiered in 1976. It starred Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, the Swedish Chef, and many other Muppets in a comedy sketch format. They were joined by many of the stars of the day. This includes Steve Martin, Elton John, Liza Minnelli, Alice Cooper, Julie Andrews, Bernadette Peters, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Gene Kelly, and Mark Hamill to name a few.
“It’s going to be great to welcome back longtime fans, and to give a new generation of fans a chance to see how we got our start, how Miss Piggy became a star and so much more,” said Kermit the Frog. “Today, I’m proud to say: ‘It’s time to play the music, light the lights and meet the Muppets on Disney Plus tonight!’ And as for Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony, I can only add: ‘Sorry, guys, but….here we go again.”
With more and more Muppet content coming to Disney+, it has now become a destination for Muppet fans. In fact, there is now The Muppets Collection for fans to enjoy. It can be found at disneyplus.com/
