The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has released it’s official teaser trailer with the movie just a few months away. Billed as “the defining chapter,” this movie looks to be the biggest of the return to Middle Earth by Peter Jackson and company.
Not only was the teaser trailer released, but also a poster to accompany it. Looking at the poster compared to the posters featuring Bilbo in previous movies, there is clearly a journey towards a darker world.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Official Teaser Trailer
Description:
From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.
“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.
Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.
As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

So what do you think?
My first thought when watching this trailer was, “the circle will be complete.” If this movie does what it needs to do, fans will have a continuous story that begins with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey that continues through both trilogies and finishes up with The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. If Peter Jackson releases director’s cuts of all six of these movies, there will be some serious movie marathons happening for fans of Middle Earth! As for the trailer, it sets the stage quite nicely for what comes next after the events of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. I’m guessing that the battle with Smaug will begin the movie and set up the bigger battles that will be obviously coming. This trailer highlights the conflict and battles that will be happening in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. What it doesn’t do is give any indication of how the movie (and trilogy) will be wrapping up. I personally was a bit dissatisfied with the multiple false endings of The Return of the King so am hoping that this trilogy will end on a stronger and more clear final note. I’m not necessarily saying it’ll be a happy note. Clearly these three movies are setting up the darkness that will need to be defeated in The Lord of the Rings.
Overall I think this was a very enjoyable trailer and I can’t wait to see the movie on opening night! How about you? Where do you predict you will be rating this movie among all six of the Middle Earth movies?
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will be released in USA theaters on December 17, 2014.
Make it a GREAT day!
