This morning, Disney California Adventure was relaunched as Bob Iger, Mickey Mouse, the Buena Vista Street News Boys, and many other honored guests and Cast Members re-opened Disney California Adventure. With the “Storytellers” statue just feet away, the event refocused Disney California Adventure with magic from Walt Disney, who began it all. During the ceremony Bob Iger said that Walt Disney came west “with little more than a suit case and a dream for his own California Adventure.” Starting today, guests visiting the Disneyland Resort will be able to relive a romanticized representation of Walt Disney’s dream. Walt Disney may not have been physically present today, but his presence was clearly guiding the way.
Following the ceremony, thousands of guests streamed into Disney California Adventure. Many of them waited all night to be one of the first to enter the park. Most of them made their way to Radiator Springs Racers, which soon ran out of Fastpasses. The line became massive. Other guests remained on Buena Vista Street and enjoyed all the streetmosphere and shows that this magical entrance to Disney California Adventure now offers. One man named Ernie earned the distinction of being the first guest at Club 1901’s lounge.
By late morning, the Esplanade in between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure had emptied out. Cars Land had become a traffic jam in every direction. Buena Vista Street was comfortably full. Other area of the parks really weren’t that busy.
The new California Adventure has begun, the Disney California Adventure and guests seemed to be relishing every moment of it. Even in lines that were surpassing four or five hours long for Radiator Springs Racers, an energy could be felt and smiles could be seen. In the parking lot that Route 66 became, people were still patient and cordial to each other as they waited to make their way in or out of Cars Land. On Buena Vista Street, guests reveled in the magic of the News Boys and Mickey Mouse as they sang “seize the day” from the hit Broadway musical Newsies.
The re-opening of Disney California Adventure begins a new era for the Disneyland Resort. There are now two theme parks (that will never be complete) where guests could easily spend an entire day enjoying what they have to offer. The future is looking bright for Disney California Adventure. The “Storytellers” statue shows Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse facing the future with anticipation over what it will bring. What a fitting monument for not only the man who made all this possible, but also for this park.
