10 years ago today Disney California Adventure was rededicated by then Disney CEO Bob Iger during a ceremony on Buena Vista Street. This marked the completion of five years of transformation of the Disneyland Resort’s second gate. Through the course of this transformation, the park saw a LOT of changes and new things added. This included new entertainment including World of Color, new attractions including The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Attraction, the new entrance in the form of Buena Vista Street, and also Cars Land and all that came with that new land!
Cars Land Opening – June 13, 2012
DAPS MAGIC was invited to cover the events surrounding the reopening of Disney California Adventure. The events started on the evening of June 13, 2012, when Cars Land was opened with a ceremony at the entrance. The event included a live band, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, Chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts Tom Staggs, many of the team that brought Cars and Cars 2 to life, Larry the Cable Guy, Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, and a host of mechanic dancers.
Media Preview of Disney California Adventure – June 14, 2012
On June 14, members of the media were given a preview of all the new offerings (and more) that were to be unveiled to the public the following day. This included the entertainment found on Buena Vista Street and beyond. This included shows like Red Car Trolley News Boys, Five and Dime, and Minnie’s Flygirls. The day concluded with glowing ears being handed out and the first presentation of World of Color Glow with the Show.
Disney California Adventure Rededication – June 15, 2012
The following morning, bright and early, the media returned to see the rededication of Disney California Adventure. The Red Car Trolley News Boys joined Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, Mickey Mouse, along with many Cast Members of the Disneyland Resort. It was a celebration of Walt Disney’s dream as he came to California to start his career in Hollywood.
Following the ceremony, thousands of guests streamed into Disney California Adventure. Cars Land was soon filled with eager guests looking forward to going for a ride on Radiator Springs Racers. Disney and Disneyland executives could be seen greeting guests throughout the park. This included Bob Iger, Tom Staggs, and Disneyland Resort President George Kalogridis. Cast Members could be seen smiling and waving at guests throughout the park as they made their way in.
The rededication of Disney California Adventure on June 15, 2012, was a magical and memorable day for anyone who was there. There were so many memorable moments on this special day and these were just a few of the highlights from this small period of time in Disney history.
