Spider-Man: Brand New Day had an incredible opening weekend at the box office. The newest outing of the webslinger initially looked to have a domestic opening that fell a little bit short of Avengers: Endgame, which previously had the top domestic opening ever. After the numbers were tabulated and revised, however, it turns out that Brand New Day had the biggest opening weekend domestically in history!
The Monday actuals revealed that the newest Spider-Man flick earned $360 million from 4,487 North American theaters. Initially, Sony had projected a $355 million opening weekend domestically. With the updated numbers, Spider-Man: Brand New Day soared past 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and its $357.1 million opening weekend.
Globally, the story didn’t change. Avengers: Endgame still holds the top spot with its $1.2 billion opening weekend. Brand New Day still had an impressive $932 million globally. This is a feat that many films could only wish to accomplish throughout an entire theatrical run. For this film, the question won’t be, “will it reach $1 billion?” but instead, “when will it reach $1 billion?” This could happen very quickly. It is also very possible that the film will pass $2 billion globally before it ends its run.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. It is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). It stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
