Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to show its strength at the box office. This week, it overtook Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the most successful film domestically. Brand New Day and its $936.773 million now is the highest-grossing film domestically of all time. This surpasses The Force Awakens and its $936 million domestically. This was a record that the Star Wars film held for over a decade.
In response to the achievement, Lucasfilm took to social media to congratulate the Spider-Man film’s success. The studio posted the following:
Impressive. Most Impressive.
From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm sends massive congratulations to Destin, Tom, everyone at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios and the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new domestic box office record and taking the crown from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The film has been in theaters for 47 days, and the next milestone domestically it could hit would be the $1 billion mark. This has never been done before and probably would not happen without a re-release. Globally, the film is the third highest-grossing film. Currently, 2009’s Avatar has the top spot with $2.9 billion and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame has the second slot with $2.7 billion. Brand New Day has earned $2.45 billion globally.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been breaking records since it first debuted in theaters. The fourth Spider-Man film that is fronted by Tom Holland, earned $360 million domestically as it broke records. Internationally, its opening weekend brought in a very impressive $932 million. It only took the film six days to pass the $1 billion mark. It reached $2 billion after three weekends.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Official Description
It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves—a powerful villain no one can even see.
