It’s all about the sauce. At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Heinz offered the chance to take four sauces home. This comes after the recent announcement of the strategic alliance between Kraft Heinz and The Walt Disney Company.
Friends of Daps Magic Mike and Matt experienced the offerings that Kraft Heinz had at D23, including a free Flavor Ferry full of sauces… and then brought them to Disneyland. There, we tried them with the four sauces that are currently found at the Golden Horseshoe. This led to a fun approach to a Disneyland food review with the chicken tenders and fries at the Golden Horseshoe. Below are thoughts on each of the eight sauces we tried with chicken strips and fries at this location. This included the four D23 sauces and four Golden Horseshoe house sauces.

Heinz D23 Flavor Ferry Sauce Reviews
Brauhaus Mustard Sauce
Mr. Daps: This wasn’t my favorite with the chicken and fries. However, I would probably really enjoy it with a brat or hot dog. It has a strong flavor that overpowered the chicken and fries and needed something more substantial to be paired with.
Mike: I must confess- I do not like mustard. That being said, I didn’t hate this. The biggest thing I would say is that this type of mustard does not pair well with simple fries or chicken tenders. I wonder if it will go well with other types of food.
Matt: Strong mustard flavor. This one is towards the bottom of my list. I think it would work better with a pretzel or brat.
Blackberry Bourbon Barbecue Sauce
Mr. Daps: This one took me on a journey. First, I found myself transported to another theme park that is known for a certain berry. However, as I continued to return to this sauce, I found myself enjoying it more and more as I stopped comparing it to the other place. I enjoyed this sauce and would get it again.
Mike: This was the flavor I was most intrigued and excited by. The first taste immediately transported me to another theme park, which confused my taste buds. I kept going back for it; it seemed my thoughts changed. At first they didn’t. I cleansed my palate, moved on, and decided to try again. Rather than using chicken, I used fries, which brought out a different flavor. This is an example of when the flavor changes with the food and proves it has a place with fries.
Matt: I thought this would be the top. The flavor is good, and I agree it works better with fries than it did with the chicken. It did grow on me as I ate more of it.
Maple Sweet Chilli Sauce
Mr. Daps: This one definitely surprised me. At first, I almost felt like it should go with a breakfast dish like chicken and waffles. However, as I kept returning to try it again, I really found myself enjoying it. I really liked how the chilli in it helped add a little spicy pop (not majorly spicy) to it.
Mike: Did I like this at first? Not at all. I felt confused and cheated out of maple. However, after I took a breath and tried again, I appreciated the unique flavor. It was a maple syrup with heat. I was expecting the traditional chicken and waffles flavor and wanted to like it as breakfast. However, the more I tried, the more I enjoyed it as a lunch or dinner confinement. Would I go back again (and voluntarily eat it)? Absolutely!
Matt: I enjoyed this one. I liked the sweet and heat of the sauce. It worked great with the chicken and the fries.
Orange Mojo Sauce
Mr. Daps: This one was not my favorite. I think I expected it to be like an orange chicken sauce or something, and that’s not what it was. It had an earthiness to it. It also had an interesting aftertaste. Some people might love it. I found myself wishing there was more orange and perhaps a bit of a spicy kick. This might have been the only one that I wouldn’t get again (although I will be tasting it again in future editions of The Sauce).
Mike: When reading the title, I was hoping for an exciting orange marmalade or Asian condiment- I got neither. There was almost no orange/citrus flavor and reminded me more of “musk”. I would see the title again, and make the fatal flaw of ordering it and trying it again.
Matt: I was hoping to like this one more. I wanted more of an orange flavor. Or at least have a flavor like orange chicken. I thought it would be good with the chicken or even pork. I am curious to find something to pair with it.
Disneyland Golden Horseshoe House Sauces
Tomato Ketchup
Mr. Daps: This was ketchup exactly like one would expect. It had a nice thickness to it, as did all the sauces we tried.
Mike: No negative comments. As ketchup goes, this is my favorite brand.
Matt: It’s ketchup. Always good with fries and works with chicken tenders.
BBQ Sauce
Mr. Daps: This was delicious. I think it could go well with just about anything! I really enjoyed it and kept returning for more. While this was a general condiment that was offered at Golden Horseshoe, it also was my first choice above all the other sauces we tried.
Mike: There is a definite difference from the previous BBQ sauce offered at the resort. I enjoyed this. It worked well with both chicken and fries. While it doesn’t mix great with the ranch (like the other iteration), it was perhaps much better as a solo condiment. I would happily eat this daily.
Matt: This is a delicious BBQ sauce. I would enjoy it with anything you can pair with BBQ sauce.
Yellow Mustard
Mr. Daps: This was yellow mustard. Once again, decent viscosity, just like the ranch and Ketchup. It seemed that all the Heinz sauces are really good for dipping in that regard.
Mike: This is traditional yellow mustard, nothing special.
Matt: It’s yellow mustard; it works on a burger or hot dog.
Ranch
Mr. Daps: I enjoyed the ranch. It was ranch. It didn’t stand out as the best ranch I’ve ever had. However, it was good, it was safe, and it was satisfying. I liked the thickness of the sauce also for dipping chicken tenders or fries.
Mike: Kraft Ranch isn’t my favorite. This is a simple ranch that isn’t the best, nor is it the worst. It’s simple.
Matt: It’s nothing exciting. It’s fine. I generally prefer ranch with salad or a veggie dip and not a sauce for chicken tenders and fries.

In the future, there will be more editions of The Sauce – Dip, Devour, Decided. If you have ideas for future reviews of sauces with foods, please let us know! Future videos will include the actual live reviews of the sauce with the foods. The next will most likely be a review of these new sauces with pretzels. This will also potentially include a review of cheeses with the pretzels, although arguments could be made about whether that is considered a sauce or not.
