On Saturday, August 15, 2026, thousands of guests attended Horizons: A Carousel of Progress Disney Experiences Showcase at the Honda Center at the end of the second day of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Throughout the evening, they were given updates and announcements about the projects that are happening in Disney Experiences around the globe.
For many fans, one of the highlights was the announcement by Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum that Disneyland will be receiving a new Tomorrowland. This new Tomorrowland will help Disneyland “keep moving forward” as it transforms the land into something that is in line with Walt Disney’s original vision for Tomorrowland. This will be a beautiful balance between legacy and progress. It will provide new experiences and possibilities for fans to love while also preserving some of the things in Tomorrowland that guests currently love the most. There will be new attractions. There will be more open spaces. This will foster an environment where guests can dream about the future.
At this point, details are scant on what the new Tomorrowland will be like. While there may not be concept art, a timeline, or specifics about this land, what is more important is that there are goals and a vision with values in place that will determine what this next iteration of Tomorrowland will be like. These will act as guide rails as Disney dreams up the future.
The goal is to restore the spirit of optimism, innovation, and possibility to Tomorrowland. This is a future for the land that views what is to come through an optimistic lens. This land was created as “a vista into a world of wondrous ideas…” in 1955. Moving into the future, Disney will be taking great care to continue this dream in a way that generations of fans will enjoy for many years to come. They also will be making this a priority over the future Avatar experience at Disney California Adventure. What the exact timing for both of these projects is now remains unknown.
This is very exciting news. The weight of this news is not felt lightly by Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum, Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino, or Emily “Emo” O’Brien, Portfolio Executive Creative Producer, Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort. There is a love for Disney in general and also for the park where Walt Disney walked himself. These are a group of leaders who are also passionate about getting the experiences that Disney offers for fans right. They care very deeply about how the fans experience Disney and making as many as happy as they can. They care about connecting with fans and actively listen to the Disney community, and feedback is used to help make decisions.
What does this all mean for Disney Parks fans as we enter a new era of Disney history under the leadership of Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro and Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum? There is a lot of investment being made to make things right. This includes making new experiences and also improving existing ones. While this does mean change and change can be hard for Disney fans, more importantly, it means progress. Walt Disney was always about progress, and it is exciting to see this mindset and approach to Disney being embraced in a way that many Disney fans have never seen before. Even more exciting is getting to watch the dreams come to fruition one project at a time!
There may be some time before details are released about the new Tomorrowland. There will be even more time until it comes to be and guests can experience it. In the meantime, there is plenty of time to imagine and dream about what the future of this part of Disneyland will end up being like in its newest version. The greatest part of this will be that since Disneyland will never be completed (with the assumption that imagination will continue on at Disney), this will just be one part of this incredible journey in the history of the Happiest Place on Earth!
