One decade ago, Shanghai Disney Resort opened its gates to the world. Since then, it has become a beloved community and tourist destination. It has become a place where people from Shanghai and around the world come to make magical memories. As the resort officially turned ten today, tens of thousands of guests joined cast members in front of Shanghai Disneyland’s Enchanted Storybook Castle for a special birthday celebration moment. Everyone came together to sing “Happy Birthday” as they celebrated a decade full of happiness, wonder, inspiration, and magic.
The highlight of the celebration was a 10th birthday moment. It featured a giant birthday cake that had a layer for each of the eight different themed lands found at Shanghai Disneyland. Adding to the magic were Disney performers and over 50 favorite Disney characters. This included Mickey and Friends, Duffy and Friends, Marvel Super Heroes, Disney Princesses, Disney and Pixar pals, and many others. An added surprise happened when a group of cast representatives was invited to the stage to commemorate this milestone on behalf of all the cast who have worked there since it opened. This led to a hearty applause from those in attendance.
The morning also saw Shanghai Disney Resort leadership, joined by cast members from teams across the resort, welcoming the first guests into Shanghai Disneyland on the milestone day. This was a magical and joyful moment as guests headed into the park.
Disney recognizes that this decade of magic is only possible because of the hard work, passion, and dedication of Shanghai Disney Resort’s cast members and Imagineers. Before the opening of Shanghai Disneyland this morning, thousands of magic makers came together on Mickey Avenue and spilled into the Gardens of Imagination for a commemorative group photo. For this milestone photo, Josh D’Amaro, Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company; Thomas Mazloum, Chairman of Disney Experiences; Tasia Filippatos, President and Managing Director of Disney Parks International; and Andrew Bolstein, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, were also on hand to be in the photo. They cheered on the cast and recognized the contributions that they have made in bringing joy to guests and helping them make unforgettable memories over the last decade. As a special surprise, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger made a surprise appearance to participate in this commemorative moment.
As Shanghai Disneyland celebrates this milestone in its history, it isn’t just looking at the past. It continues to look and move forward. A new hotel’s name was revealed as Disney Enchanted Star Hotel. This is the third hotel that is coming to the resort, which will be followed by a fourth as well. This fourth hotel will be found just steps from the entrance of Shanghai Disneyland. Work is also underway on a Spider-Man-themed land. The signature coaster for this land recently reached a significant milestone. This new land will include new themed shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences. Other new exciting offerings are coming to Shanghai Disney Resort in the future as well.
