On this day in 1985, General Electric’s sponsorship of the Carousel of Progress attraction ended. GE first commissioned Walt Disney to design a show for their pavilion at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. “Progressland,” as it was originally known, came out of an unrealized idea for Edison Square depicting advancements in electricity over the years. The Sherman Brothers song, “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” promoted GE’s philosophy at the time. [40 years ago in 2025]
