The Walt Disney World Resort celebrated the 50th anniversary of Space Mountain with a special moment. Walt Disney World Resort Ambassadors Serena and Shannon were joined by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck (Donald showed up dressed as an astronaut) for the moment honoring this first-of-its-kind attraction. The origins of Space Mountain date back to a vision that Walt Disney had for the attraction after the creation of the Matterhorn at Disneyland. He had Imagineer John Hench draw up concept art for the attraction. The attraction wouldn’t come to being at Disneyland until two years after it had opened at Walt Disney World Resort. Space Mountain opened at Magic Kingdom on January 15, 1975.
