On this day in 1909, landscape architect Ruth Shellhorn was born. Three months before the opening of Disneyland, Walt Disney hired Shellhorn to design a comprehensive pedestrian circulation system for much of the park. She was responsible for the look of Town Square, Main Street, the Plaza, and eventually Frontierland. Shellhorn was considered to be one of the most influential landscape architects in Southern California during the post-war era. [115 years ago in 2024]
