A new feature is coming to Disney+ that will most likely be a very welcome feature for subscribers. The new feature announced today by Disney is continuous playlists. Continuous playlists will be added to core subscription on-demand offering in the United States starting on September 4, 2024. This will start with ABC News Live and also a playlist focused on preschool content. These will be available to all subscribers. This will be followed by four more curated playlists later this fall.
The new feature comes ahead of updated pricing for various Disney+ plans later this year. This will provide subscribers with both live and on-demand streaming experience that promises to continue to grow as the year moves forward.
“Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+,” Alisa Bowen, President, Disney+, said. “Whether its news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest.”
Leading into the 2024 Presidential Election, all subscribers of Disney+ will have access to ABC News Live. This is a 24/7 premium streaming news channel for live newscasts, breaking news, live events and in-depth special reports. It also has won multiple awards.
The other initial playlist will be focused on preschool content. It will include TV series and shorts that are already available on Disney+. This includes Sofia the First, The Lion Guard, Puppy Dog Pals, and Minnie’s Bow-Toons.
Coming later this fall there will be four more curated playlists added to Disney’s streaming service. They include:
- Seasonal Content — a collection of seasonal-themed content from across the Disney+ catalog
- Epic Stories — a compilation of action-packed stories from marquee brands and franchises, including Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars
- Throwbacks — a destination for nostalgic pop culture content
- Real Life — a lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true stories
As new offerings continue to be added to Disney+, the streaming service will be updating its pricing structure. The new prices will go into effect on October 17, 2024 and will impact Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ in the United States for both ad-supported and ad-free plans. They do not impact the bundle offerings this time around. They will be as follows:
