Aladdin, the hit Broadway musical, is celebrating ten magical years. As part of this celebration, a very special performance was had at the New Amsterdam Theatre. In Times Square, the Disney Store has also put together a special pop up experience for this milestone event. The celebrations continued when the Genie himself, Michael James Scott, made a surprise stop by the Disney Store to grant some wishes. While there, he surprised guests at the Disney Store with tickets to Aladdin on Broadway, an item from the Aladdin Dooney & Bourke limited-edition collection, and a Disney gift card that can be used at the Disney Store or DisneyStore.com. Disney released a video on social media of this magical day.
The popup in the Disney Store includes merchandise that was previously only available at the kiosks in the theater and also the Aladdin Dooney & Bourke limited-edition collection. The popup will continue to run through April 24th.
Aladdin originally opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014. Based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios film of the same name, the Broadway version had immediate critical acclaim and success. This success has continued through the last ten years making Aladdin one of the most successful shows on Broadway. The current cast of Aladdin stars Michael Maliakel making his Broadway debut in the title role, Michael James Scott as Genie, Sonya Balsara as Jasmine, and Dennis Stowe as Jafar. The show also features Milo Alosi, Zach Bencal and Brad Weinstock as Aladdin’s sidekicks Kassim, Babkak and Omar, JC Montgomery as Sultan and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago. Caleb Barnett, Jeremy Gaston, and Wes Hart stand by for several principals.
