Just days after Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway celebrated its 10th anniversary, Disney Store Times Square has now kicked off its own celebration of this iconic show. From April 1 to April 28, Disney Store Time Square will be hosting its own celebration of this Broadway favorite with Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway 10th Anniversary merchandise and a photo opportunity with the official The Genie costume and Genie Lamp. Both the costume and the lamp are from the Broadway musical.
A very special performance of Aladdin was held on Thursday, March 28, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. In the show, director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw staged a slate of hidden Easter eggs. Some of these included cameos by Aladdin’s original stars Adam Jacobs (Aladdin), Courtney Reed (Jasmine), Jonathan Freeman (original Jafar in the animated film and then original also for the character on Broadway), along with James Monroe Iglehart. Iglehart won a 2014 Tony Award for playing the role of the Genie. Along with these surprises, even more came when 20 returning alumni surrounded the audience in the New Amsterdam Theatre during the final moments of Friend Like Me. It is located in the heart of Times Square and is recognized as one of the destinations that should be visited by people in New York’s Time Square. It is Disney’s flagship store and has plenty of toys, apparel, collectibles, and more from Disney’s many different stories. This includes merchandise Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel, to name a few.
