In the decade that Aladdin has been running on Broadway, only a few other shows have outgrossed it at the box office. In fact, only The Lion KingWicked and Hamilton have beat it at the box office!

The week after the anniversary, there will be a celebratory performance. On Thursday, March 28, director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw will be staging a slate of hidden Easter eggs along with an epic surprise in the show’s signature production number Friend Like Me.

Aladdin hasn’t just been successful on Broadway, however. It has gone way beyond that and achieved success and popularity globally. Through the last decade there have been 11 productions on four continents that showcase the spectacle created by Nicholaw and his incredible creative team. Together, they are winners of 24 career Tony® Awards.

When Aladdin reaches its milestone anniversary on March, audiences on Broadway will have experienced an incredible number of special effects. Disney shared the following fun facts about this beloved show’s special effects:

  • Aladdin and Jasmine have flown over 115 miles on the magic carpet while singing the Oscar-winning A Whole New World
  • The Genie has set off more than 131,000 pyrotechnics in the showstopping Friend Like Me
  • In the Act Two opener “Prince Ali,” the cast and wardrobe team have made nearly a quarter million lightning-fast costume quick changes
  • 850 pounds of custom-mixed glitter have been used to create the Genie’s signature sparkle
