Top 5 Disney Stories of 2023: #2 Epcot Renewed

Nearing the end of the countdown is the second place of Epcot nearly reopening it’s new areas after a very lengthy refurbishment and construction.

It’s been known that Future World would be transformed with some new areas and looks, and one such area would be World Celebration. New attractions have been opened, like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, but much of this futuristic area was behind walls.

It was known that World Celebration and World Nature would open up sometime this year, and many had been tracking its progress. The revamp really began with Journey of Water Inspired by Moana. Much of the construction went vertical for many guests and peering eyes to see. Previews began for cast members and guests in September, and even for some Destination D23 members to take a look at. Also at Destination D23, another notable new Epcot feature was the life-sized Figment to get photos with. The first couple days garnered hours of waiting to see the purple dragon!

More was divulged and finally an opening date of both the World Celebration area and new nighttime spectacular, Luminous – the Symphony of Us. December 5, the birth date of Walt Disney, would be the official opening of the gathering spot and show. A serene new plaza featuring the Walt Disney statue has been an instant hit with guests. Luminous has also been a welcome addition to Epcot’s nights.

There is still a part of World Celebration to be completed next year, but the vast majority of it is complete (for now). It has breathed more life into the unique park and transformed it into a true festival park.
