On this day in 1928, the Mickey Mouse short ‘The Gallopin’ Gaucho’ premiered at the Mark Strand Theater in New York City. It was animated by Ub Iwerks, who co-directed with Walt Disney. ‘The Gallopin’ Gaucho’ was a parody of the Douglas Fairbanks film, ‘The Gaucho.’ It would become the second Mickey cartoon. The rights to the short are expected to enter the public domain on January 1, 2024.
