Several years ago I had the opportunity to attend a media event that was a special event for it’s a small world Holiday Lighting Ceremony at Disneyland. This was a brief, but beautiful, ceremony that was full of magic as the facade of it’s a small world was brought to life for the holiday season for the first time. The lighting ceremony was in honor of Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Mark Plummer. He received a Purple Heart for his heroic actions in Fallujah, Iraq. He and his family brought it’s a small world holiday to life along with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Disneyland Ambassador Jolie Hales and representatives from both SYLVANIA and Operation Homefront.
While this was a special night, I couldn’t tell you that many specifics of it 11 years later. What I do remember was the feelings from that night. It was perhaps one of the most magical nights at Disneyland as Mickey and Minnie joined the family of Staff Sergeant Plummer on the stage. There was a lot of love and joy on the stage and it was contagious. I was also there with many friends in the media that cover the Disneyland Resort. The combination just felt like Christmas and I was very thankful for it.
The following video is from this special evening on November 12, 2012. I hope you enjoy it. I know the feelings might not translate through screens but as I watch it again, I can’t help but smile! It’s also kind of fun that it was on this date that this originally happened as well!
Every night throughout the holiday season, the facade for it’s a small world Holiday lights up magically at dusk. It is definitely worth stopping by and checking out. While it doesn’t have a stage and special guest like happened that one night over a decade ago, it is still magical and beautiful to watch! I’d definitely suggest checking out during the holidays season.
