Avatar: The Way of Water has been a very successful movie. The film is the third most successful film at the box office of all time. This comes after the original Avatar and then Avengers: Endgame. As it moved from theaters to the world of streaming, the movie’s success continued.
On an earnings call last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger shared that it was the most successful release on streaming for the company of all time. Iger said, “‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ which is now the third highest-grossing film of all time, is also on track to be the biggest ever electronic home video release for Disney domestically.”
The film arrived on both Disney+ and Max when it moved to the realm of streaming. It quickly became the most streamed movie in the world thanks to being streamed on both platforms. It debuted on June 7th on both of the streaming services.
The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) (via The Numbers) shared that Avatar: The Way of Water was also the most “watched at home” film during its first four weeks that it was available for digital download starting on March 28th. It was eventually knocked out of the top spot by Ant-Man: Quantumania on April 22.
With the continued success of the Avatar franchise, Disney continues to be moving forward with more offerings from the franchise. There are three more movies set to be added to the franchise. A new Avatar themed area has also been announced for the Disneyland Resort as well.
