Ahead of the arrival of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in theaters later this week, the soundtrack has been released on streaming services. Written by John Williams, this soundtrack is the final of the series and quite possibly the final soundtrack to be written by the famed composer.
The release of the soundtrack came one year after the recording for the soundtrack began. The recording concluded February 10, 2023 at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. It includes new music, including Helena’s Theme, which John Williams wrote for Pheobe Waller-Bridge’s character. The theme was written to be performed by German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
John Williams’ involvement in this film wasn’t a sure thing when director James Mangold took over the film from Steven Spielberg, who had directed the four previous Indiana Jones films. “I didn’t know if John would do the whole movie when I jumped on – I only prayed,” Mangold told LucasFilm. “At first he said, ‘I’ll write some themes’, and then he just couldn’t stop writing all the music to the movie.”
The soundtrack for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has six new themes. It also returns to some classic themes in new ways for The Raiders March and also Marion’s Theme. Below is a look at the tracklist for this soundtrack followed by an embedded playlist for those who want to listen to it. There are potential minor spoilers found in the tracklist.
