Production is currently happening in the United Kingdom on the next Ghostbusters film. While not a ton is known about this film, little bits continue to trickle out. Dan Aykroyd previously shared that he was going to be appearing in this sequel to the Ghostbusters: Afterlife. In a recent interview with Metro, Aykroyd shared more about the film and also about the return of Bill Murray once again to the franchise.
Aykroyd provided an update on where in the process of making the film they are at saying,“We’re three-quarters through filming, which means it’s got to be edited and mixed, and the CGI has to be put into it.” However, just providing a progress report wasn’t all that Aykroyd shared about the movie.
There are quite a few returning cast members coming to this movie. This includes Bill Murray and others. It also apparently has a fantastic story. Aykroyd shared, “I’m excited about this one. It’s got a beautiful, heartfelt story, a great threat, some scary moments, and it brings back Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and myself, and we’ve handed the torch to new people, Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon.”
This upcoming sequel will see the remaining members of the original Ghostbusters team coming together once again with the cast of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. This includes Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, and Celeste O’Connor. They will all be joined by new cast members that include Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.
This movie will be directed by Gil Kenan and be based on a screenplay that he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. It continues the story that was first started in the original 1984 Ghostbusters. It is expected to be released in theaters on December 20, 2023.
