A sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife is in the works at Sony. Afterlife was released in 2021 and was directed by Jason Reitman. His father, Ivan Reitman, directed the original 1984 Ghostbusters. The original film starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Harold Ramis.
The 2021 film continued the story of the original with a whole new group of Ghostbusters. It starred Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd. Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts all returned to reprise their roles. This movie tells the story of a family that moves into the middle of nowhere only to discover they have quite a connection with the original Ghostbusters.
The sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife at this point does not have any details attached to it. There also isn’t a release date announced as of yet. It also isn’t known if Reitman will be returning to helm the film. The only news that was shared by Sony was that the movie is getting a sequel. The announcement was made during a presentation on Monday evening at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
