Disney Announces Plans to Update The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Make it a Disney Vacation Club Property

Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are a wonderful place to stay at Walt Disney World Resort. They give guests a chance to feel like they are in the middle of nature while also being in the middle of Disney (read Daps Magic’s review here). It’s a great place to have the comforts of home, fit the whole family, and have a little bit of adventure! It will soon also become a Disney Vacation Club property. Disney Vacation Club has announced that the cabins will be getting updated, or “refreshed” as part of this change.

“For more than 50 years, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has offered guests the opportunity to explore nature with their loved ones while staying in the heart of Walt Disney World Resort,” said Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club. “We’re excited to continue to build upon the resort’s rich legacy and elevate the cabin experience for our Members and all guests to enjoy for years to come.”

The plan for the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has 350 new cabins replacing the current cabins at the resorts. This is across the 750 scenic woodlands of this beautiful resort. The new cabins would be built with attention being paid to making them environmentally friendly. They will utilize the footprint of the current cabins and take advantage of more energy-efficient features.

Disney described the new cabins in the following way:

Design concepts offer a fresh take on the current cabin experience and are inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling. Each proposed, stand-alone cabin offers spacious accommodations, sleeping up to six adults, and features a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen and private patio. A select number of cabins are also expected to be dog-friendly.

The cabins will be open for reservations for all guests, as they have been, not just those who are Disney Vacation Club Members. This will be based on availability.

The cabin plans are just part of a bigger picture collection of improvement projects that are being done at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground to enhance the guest experience. Other projects include proposed pool and also walking trail enhancements. Disney is also expanding the dining experiences at Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern. There should be more updates coming at a later date.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is located in the heart of The Walt Disney World Resort and is just a short boat-ride away from the Magic Kingdom. Its location provides for easy access to the theme parks while also offering amenities often associated with a campground. This includes horseback riding at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch (which was recently updated), fishing, walking trails, pools, playgrounds for young ones, Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long and also the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review. Campsite accommodations will also continue to be available for guests.

The project for The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is expected to open in 2024 as The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club. When it opens, it will be the 17th Disney Vacation Club resort. There will be more details about this project, including the start of sales and rental bookings, available at a later date.
