The Walt Disney Company Garners 22 Oscar Nominations

This morning The Walt Disney Company garnered and impressive 22 Oscar nominations. This put it in front of all other studios in terms of number of nominations. The nominations spanned across several of its different film studios. This includes two Best Picture nominations for 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: The Way of Water and also Searchlight Pictures’ The Banshees of Inisherin.

Searchlight Pictures led the nomination numbers with 10 in total, nine of which were for The Banshees of Inisherin. The Banshees of Inisherin received nominations for Best Director (Martin McDonagh), Best Actor (Colin Farrell), Best Supporting Actor (Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan), Best Supporting Actress (Kerry Condon), Best Original Screenplay (Martin McDonagh), Best Film Editing (Mikkel E.G. Nielsen), and Best Original Score (Carter Burwell) and the aforementioned Best Picture nomination. The other nomination that Searchlight Pictures earned was for Best Cinematography for Empire of Light. Searchlight Pictures has earned 21 Best Picture nominations to date.

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earned five nominations, including  Best Supporting Actress (Angela Bassett), Best Costume Design (Ruth E. Carter), Best Original Song for “Lift Me Up” (Tems, Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler), Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Visual Effects.

Avatar: The Way of Water received nominations for Best Production Design, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects. Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red was given nominations for Best Animated Feature Film. National Geographic Documentary Films saw its Fire of Love get a nomination in the category of Best Documentary Feature Film. Finally, Disney Branded Television got a nomination for Best Live Action Short for Le Pupille.

The 95th Academy Award Ceremony will take place Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 4, 2023. It will be broadcast on ABC domestically and on other outlets around the world.
