Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars Being Developed as a Movie

Armor Wars was initially being developed as a Disney+ series. However, this has now changed. The Hollywood Reporter shared that the Don Cheadle led title is now being developed as a full-length feature. This came as Marvel was working on the story and realized that to get it right, a movie was a better way to do this.

The change in release formats will lead to Armor Wars arriving in front of fans’ eyes a little slower. However, Don Cheadle will still be starring as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes, or War Machine. Yassir Lester, who was the head writer for the series, will now be working on the movie script.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is aiming to go into production in 2023. A director has not been attached to the project at this point. It also isn’t clear where the movie will end up landing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe release schedule. Don Cheadle as Rhodey will be returning to the MCU before this project, however. He is set to show up in Secret Invasion, the Disney+ series, in 2023. He will be joining Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn in this project.

As recently as last month, it was thought that Armor Wars would be a six-episode series on Disney+. Don Cheadle joined Kevin Feige on stage to make this announcement and reveal the logo at D23 Expo 2022.

Armor Wars is a storyline in the Iron Man comics from 1987 and 1988. In this storyline, the technology of Iron Man falls into the wrong hands. Obviously, with this kind of advanced tech being in the hands of people who shouldn’t have it, things get bad pretty quickly. Armor Wars was seen as a way to explore this storyline and also show off a lot of different types of armor.

The arrival of Armor Wars in theaters instead of on Disney+ is the first time an MCU series was transformed into a theatrical release. Hawkeye was the first movie that did the opposite and was instead made into a Disney+ series. What do you think of Armor Wars being sent into theaters instead of being released as a Disney+ series?
