Hong Kong Disneyland Closing as Outbreak in China Grows

Hong Kong Disneyland is closing its gates starting on January 26, 2020. This follows Shanghai Disney Resort which also closed its gates due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in China that continues to expand. The following statement was posted on the Hong Kong Disneyland website:

As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, we are temporarily closing Hong Kong Disneyland park starting from January 26, 2020 out of consideration for the health and safety of our guests and cast members. The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open. We are in close contact with health authorities and the government about the situation and will announce a reopening date once they determine it is advisable.

At this point it isn’t known when Hong Kong Disneyland will reopen. Disney values the safety and health of its guests and cast members so do not expect the park to reopen until it is deemed safe to do so.

The coronavirus continues to spread throughout China and beyond. The virus has spread to a dozen countries as China attempts to contain it. Over 1,200 people have contracted it already. China has put millions of its residents on lockdown to try and battle the grave virus.
