The summer is in full swing for the Disneyland Resort 2019 All-American College Band. A highlight of the band’s performances each summer is when they perform with their clinicians. The first clinician for the summer was an internationally acclaimed jazz drummer, percussionist, clinician, author, and educator Steve Houghton. Through the years, Houghton has been on over a hundred albums. He also has performed with many jazz and classical artists throughout the years. Houghton also has over 30 books that he has written over the years. Houghton is currently a Professor of Percussion and Jazz at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. On top of all of this, he regularly serves as a clinician around the world, including at the Disneyland Resort with this band.
Steve Houghton is not only a world-renown musician, but he is also an alumnus of the band. In 1973 Steve Houghton was a member of the band. He continues to perform with the band as a jazz clinician yearly with the band. Houghton worked with the band before then performing with them in Disney California Adventure at the Hollywood Backlot Stage.
The performance included multiple songs, apparently picked by Houghton. The set included:
- When You Wish Upon a Star Opener
- Dangerous Curves
- Jazz Crimes
- My Man’s Gone
- Hub Tones
The set was a lot of fun and Steve Houghton once again showcased his talent as a musician. There were some different songs included in the set than in recent years, which made for a nice change. The jazz set is always a great set to catch but having Steve Houghton there made it even more magical!
