Captain Minnie Mouse comes to Disney Cruise Line to Inspire a New Generation of Sailors

Captain Minnie Mouse

Ahoy! We are so excited to announce that the Disney Cruise Line has some exciting new things when you step onboard. Captain Minnie Mouse is here to inspire the next generation of female captains!

Of course, children love to see their favorite Disney characters when they step on the ship for a Disney Cruise. Now, when little girls see Minnie Mouse, it can mean something even more exciting! Minnie is here to spread the message of exploring new horizons, both by land and by sea. Young girls who may have never thought about exploring the maritime industry are given a chance to!

Maritime Scholarships

This year, Disney Cruise Line is proud to sponsor four scholarships for LJM Maritime Academy in the Bahamas. The scholarship will go to women who aspire to be ship captains. The scholarships, one for each of the ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, include two years of study at the academy and one year of service aboard a Disney ship.

Nautical Fun on Ships

Later this year, Captain Minnie Mouse will be debuting fun new activities for future captains! The activities will give young ones the chance to practice STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) skills while participating in nautical themed fun. Children will hone their STEM and problem-solving abilities – skills that play an important role in the maritime industry – in a series of engaging, hands-on activities.

Take Maritime Fun to Land

Minnie Mouse wants to bring the message of her “can do” attitude further than cruise ships! Minnie will be meeting and greeting guests in some of Disney Cruise Line’s homeports and ports of call. Local children will have the opportunity to be inspired by Captain Minnie and all she can do!

Minnie will be joined by a female Disney Cruise Line officer or crew member to showcase their roles in the maritime industry and raise awareness about career choices for women aboard a cruise ship. This gives children an opportunity to see that not only can Minnie do it, but it is very possible for them to do it as well!

Disney Cruise Line Exclusive Merchandise

Of course, what would Minnie be without her fashion? In an exciting new addition to the merchandise lineup, you can now get Cruise Line-exclusive merchandise with Minnie’s tagline “You can call me captain.” Want to take the sharp dressed Minnie home? A plush will be introduced later this year!

PANDORA Jewelry has also taken some inspiration from the new captain. Look for the new charm exclusively onboard your next cruise!

In one of my favorite additions, little captains will be able to get a Captain Minnie Mouse Makeover onboard later this year! The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will be able to transform children into a daring captain, inspired by their favorite mouse of course. Not only will they be able to learn all about the career, but they will be able to look the part as well!

I am definitely excited to see Disney expand on inspiring another generation of female leaders! What are you most excited to see? Connect with us on Twitter and Facebook to let us know!
