With Marvel a growing part of the Disney universe, it seems logical that our favorite superheroes were bound to have a larger part in Disney parks. Today it was announced there are themed areas in the works for three Disney Resorts around the globe. The Disneyland Resort in California, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland will all be receiving new areas, with opening dates of 2020 for Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Hong Kong Disneyland has already started their Marvel integration into the parks with the Iron Man Experience, and is unclear when their new offerings will open.
For quite some time, there has been speculation about bringing Marvel into the Disneyland Resort on a larger scale than just Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and a few character meet and greets. It seemed that the most logical area to make a Marvel themed land would be where A Bug’s Land currently resides, and that is what Disney officially announced today. “It’s Tough to be a Bug” closed yesterday so preparations are already underway for this new addition to Disney California Adventure. A Bug’s Land is slated to close at the end of this summer. It doesn’t sound like there will be any new attractions, just an immersive area where guests can interact with many of their favorite Marvel heroes. I’m sure we can expect more details closer later this year once A Bug’s Land has officially been closed.
It was announced last month that Disneyland Paris would be receiving a multi-year expansion at their Walt Disney Studios Park, and a Marvel area concept seemed to be part of that announcement. The area will feature a re-imagined attraction, which the Disney Parks Blog says “riders will team up with Iron Man and their favorite Avengers on a hyper-kinetic adventure.” Could it be similar to the Iron Man Experience in Hong Kong Disneyland? We aren’t entirely positive on what that entails, but it sounds incredible. But, to start with the festivities, they will host the Marvel Summer of Super Heroes from June 10 to September 30, with a new, live-action production featuring everyone’s favorite Marvel heroes.
Hong Kong Disneyland is also underway on their expansion, as the Iron Man Experience opened early last year, and is one of the most popular attractions at that resort. They will also have a themed area and will also receive an additional Marvel attraction featuring Ant-Man and The Wasp. No opening date information has been released for this attraction.
I know I am certainly excited about this information and I can’t wait to see what Disney and Marvel collaboratively create for guests. What are you looking forward to?
