On October 9, 2026, Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry will debut exclusively in IMAX theaters. Today, tickets go on sale for this ESPN documentary that is directed by Religion of Sports co-founder Gotham Chopra. Presented by ESPN Films, IMAX Documentaries, and Unanimous Media, in association with the NBA, Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry is a Religion of Sports film that is distributed by Disney.

The documentary captures four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP Stephen Curry on the verge of his record-extending 4,000th career three-pointer, as he reflects on the upbringing, mindset and work ethic that have made him among the most legendary artists of our time. The film follows Curry leading up to and throughout one remarkable game, weaving together his generational artistry with perspectives from other innovative artists – including Viola Davis, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith and Jon Batiste – showcasing how his singular vision has permanently transformed the game of basketball.
When Curry hit his 4,000th career three-pointer, it wasn’t just another record – it was something the league had literally never seen before. Curry entered the home game at Chase Center against the Sacramento Kings needing just two threes to reach the unprecedented milestone of 4,000 career three-pointers. Curry became the first player in NBA history to reach this historic milestone. The Warriors went on to win the game 130-104.
The state-of-the-art production – which utilized 21 IMAX-certified cameras to capture the urgency and emotion around this historic single day and single game – is directed by Gotham Chopra and produced by John Turner, Meghan Cirillo, Nick Frew, Erick Peyton and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett. The film features cinematography by Jessica Young, original music by Cameron Moody and editing by Sean Horvath, who also serves as story producer.
