Summer of Heroes, Ghost Town Alive, & Space Mountain – Disneyland & Knott’s Update

Memorial Day Weekend was packed full of things to do at the Disneyland Resort and Knott’s Berry Farm.

Space Mountain Anniversary

On Saturday, Disneyland celebrated the 40th anniversary of Space Mountain with a special card handed out at the attraction.  In Star Traders and Disneyana special “I Was There” shirts were for sale.  Blue shirts were available for the general public while red Annual Passholder shirts were just for AP’s.

Ghost Town Alive

Knott’s Berry Farm kicked off their summer with the return of Ghost Town Alive.  This interactive festival is all around the Ghost Town area of Knott’s.  Various residents of Calico send guests on missions and tasks.  The day culminates in a Founders Day celebration at Calico Square where a hoedown invites guests to dance along.  During the day, the Mayfield gang tries to thwart the festivities and guests can try to catch them…or join them.

Summer of Heroes

Of course the big event is the start of the Summer of Heroes at Disney California Adventure.  Besides the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, the event also has some great shows and food.  It’s so big that we have several posts that highlight all of this:

Also at DCA is the Disney Jr. Dance Party which also opened this week.

Summer Just Starting

Both Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm are just kicking off their summer season.  Knott’s Berry Farm will have special shows that have not debuted yet, like at the Charles M. Schulz Theater.  Disneyland still has yet to premier the new version of Fantasmic! and reopen the Rivers of America.  Also the Disneyland Railroad will be opening within the summer time as well.  We’ve been hearing in July, but there is not formal announcement so do not take that as a firm opening time.

Still, it’s a good time to visit both sets of parks.  Knott’s Berry Farm also has new slides at Soak City which make it an especially “cool” place to visit as things get hotter for the summer season.

Have a great Memorial Day and we’ll be back next week!
