First Mulan’s Chinese New Year Procession Comes to Disneyland

DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs

Today Disneyland began celebrating the Lunar New Year. Last year, this celebration took place in Frontierland as a part of the Family Fun Weekends. This year, the celebration is taking place on the Small World mall. The area has been decorated with flowering trees, hanging lanterns, dragons, and other appropriate decorations.

Several times throughout the day a processional hailed the arrival of Mulan and Mushu to the meet and greet area. They were accompanied by beautiful girls in matching costumes as a part of Mulan’s Chinese Year Year Procession. Following the procession, Mulan and Mushu were available for photographs. Chip and Dale were also in the meet and greet area but were not a part of the procession. The girls who accompanied Mulan and Mushu stayed in the area as well for approximately a half an hour and played with ribbon wands with children and were available for photographs as well.

The area surrounding the character photo location had other opportunities to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The food carts have chocolate churros, eggrolls, edamame and almond cookies.  An artist was painting names of guests in traditional script.

According to a Disneyland Press Release, there will be other forms of entertainment throughout the Lunar New Year celebration at Disneyland. You can go to the press release for a full rundown on what these are.
