welcome to Geeks corner I'm Mr daps I'm Katie and it's Christmas Eve Eve

otherwise known as geek Miss Eve eve it's true also known as my sister's birthday happy birthday

sister that was the most like Hello Sister it is your day of birth Happy

many salutations anyway but nobody says happy birthday like

Cronk don't you think I think that is one of the best birthday wishes on

screen is CR that's true I just think it's hilarious I really want to watch rewatch emperor's new grp it's a classic

it it's honestly so good and we're it's one of those ones I wouldn't be like oh

yeah that's a Disney one but it's good it kind of feels DreamWorks e or maybe

some yeah is DreamWorks 20th century something I don't know yeah

Tiana was weighing in on that one we've got a lot of fun stuff going on but yeah including the dog that's weighing in on

this that's great anyway if you want to weigh on on this go into the chat but tell us what is your favorite I made a

noise there's lots of noise Christmas song what's your favorite Christmas song

do you have one Mr DS um depends on the day well he made the question Christmas tree is always up

there like Charlie Brown version oh okay [Music] um slay ride is one of mine That's a

classic to torment people it's Christmas Time Is Here I love to just randomly go

Christmas also there you go just like randomly

really loudly because the best remember when they used to play that at um Starbucks Jingle Bell Rock

the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud so maybe Santa Claus's coming to town should be the favorite

because elf and I vaguely remember when Starbucks played that but you know what I remember even more when Starbucks played I'm actually surprised you just

said no because I rant about this frequently The Muppets 12 Days of Christmas oh yeah I do remember this do

you know how long that song is I have that record it's really long I should have brought out like all of my M I'll

do this sometime maybe yeah we could do like a show when we don't have a lot of content maybe next week even maybe we'll

pull out all of the Muppet albums that I have because I have most of the

movies I have the two Christmas ones we could count Sesame Street too if

you want like let me know let me know that could be kind of fun to go through our collection of Muppet vinyl Muppet's

12 Days of Christmas is four and a half minutes long it feels so much longer it feels so much longer and when you are

again I feel like 12 days of Christmas is long in general but yes

um again this was 10 years ago so this is pre mobile order and pay this is pre-

delivery this is you stand and you wait this is you standing you wait but still you're a barista and you're you know

making drinks you're making your eggnog lattes that in 2014 had notoriously gone

off the menu at the start of the holiday season and then came back halfway through because they realized made a horrible mistake still making a horrible

mistake bring them back bring them out bring them out anyway those are the

best side note Mr daps genuinely suggested we get an espresso machine just so he can make his own eggnog

lattes there you go that's how much that means but um you're you're busy and the only

thing I could ever pick out of that song like it was mostly background noise no oh I remember that part Miss

Piggy five golden rings and her five golden rings um oh I did make eggnog lattes for

my residents and they enjoyed them so Starbucks bring them back I can't even

tell you the amount of people that have come through the drive-thru and they have said Do you have do you guys have eggnog lattes and I went I'm so sorry we

haven't brought them back the last few years and they went I had to ask and it makes me so sad I feel like they should

have a thing where you can track those like how many people request them just because I think they're leaving money on

the table uh if you go to Starbucks ideas.com if that website every day that

website still exists um because it might not anymore there you go but it was like

a thing where customers or Partners or whoever could put in their grand idea for Starbucks I'm just saying the new

CEO keeps saying let's get back to Starbucks and that mean let's get back to eggnog lattes that's what I think

that means hash back to Starbucks asbag lattes I wonder if Starbucks still follows me on X I think they do I should

I should start tweeting at them asking about eggnog I think they also follow me nice start a campaign I'm their favorite

manager Whispering campaign all right uh it's been an exciting week when we didn't necessarily know that there'd be

a lot of excitement happening in the Parks at least ahead of the big bands coming to play um in the middle of next

week I think I don't remember what day they're coming but Madame leota's somewhere beyond shop I guess

like it's just Madam's Leo is somewhere beyond which is kind of weird because Disney usually like is very specific

about what something is is there not an official press release that calls it somewhere something like Haunted Mansion

colon Madam Leota somewhere beyond it's literally comma curio and Shop I'm

literally looking at it right now it's Madame Leota somewhere beyond I'm just I was just goofing I know but like what

you're saying makes a little bit of sense because if you just look at Madame Leota somewhere beyond that doesn't tell you

anything about like it could be an attraction it could be an experience it could be a walkth

through show think the guests have had their hands held a little bit too much I

agree so I I like this naming convention because like I it's been a hard thing for me

like the paragraphs of naming things you know the easy example I'm so sorry is

Gardens the Galaxy uh colon Mission breakout um exclamation point is it's

like no one calls it that it's just Mission breakout it'd be like if it was like danger exclamation point pirates in

the Caribbean a a water Flume attraction just call PES of the

Caribbean anyway um Madame Lea somewhere beyond all right

let's talk about it instead of the name um it's part of talking about it it is

uh so it opened the outside looked very similar there's been some new details that been added in the last uh few days

or week or so including some aging of the outside which I think is really great but the thing that's really

exciting is the inside I love the level of detail that have been

put into recent shops and I feel like maybe the Tipping Point was when they redid some of the stuff on Main Street a

few years ago and Kim Irvine it was on the west side of the street when she was working on all that stuff and you saw

like the first step towards what we're seeing now because then you look at what they just did in uh Lewis Critter Club

in uh Bayou Country in the level of story and the level of detail and how

they interacted with each other and I thought that store was pretty cool then you come to this one

and I feel like it's the next level beyond that uh Ray B should get a shout out too yeah there we go um but there

are so many cool things in uh in the beyond what is it called

Somewhere Beyond I don't have a quick way to say it Madame Leo is somewhere beyond there's so many cool details in

there whether the musical instruments whether there's um it's her crystal ball and it's it's actually doing stuff like

it's animated and it's making noises love we got a video of it up on the site and or YouTube too and then um and then

you start looking closer and there's like a cat that's Madame leota's cat

that a few people have suggested should be named tombs I think that's a great

great name um my favorite thing in this shop is that we get our first ever look

at what Madame Leota would have looked like when she was alive which looks an awful lot like Leota

tombs and that is the coolest thing in the entire world yeah that is a very

cool thing it was one of those things where I was like I thought I had a picture of it here somewhere what I think is so rad is it's

like you have to think that 50 years

ago roughly when this attraction opened they weren't thinking this is my

legacy they were like this is a really cool thing I get to do and it's like you get to be immortalized haha um in this

attraction um and like your daughter gets to honor your memory in a really

really cool way and I just think that's fun I agree so yeah um other fun thing

is there's a couple of other portraits in there one of them being this one which is a bride of some sort it looks

like that could be perhaps but who knows I mean we haven't seen any Brides since

we got um there's also that's the that is a um art or a u model I guess you could

say that grab the wrong one as I'm doing this on the Fly uh there's another piece

of art what do you think of this art and what do you think it might mean because I feel like people are G to speculating

yeah so if I'm GNA put my two cents in please do um I think that when we see

the classic attraction come back I think that our beloved bride May nope not that

one it's too small never mind I can't tell I think our beloved bride might have gotten an upgrade an upgrade U

mainly because I think that our previous constants hatchway was so like 2000's core y 2K

core okay um it's the the rear projected face that doesn't really fit right and

the Heart Is I don't know what you're talking about yeah so I I think and I hope that

she's gotten a lot of spooky love um you said that it actually reminded you it

reminds me a little bit of of the um bride in uh Phantom Manor which is like

the spookiest then there's also this picture I found it which also is clearly a

bride and is in another corner of the building oh that's also ooky spooky right like there's some really cool

pictures in here and not to mention all the instruments and all of his other stuff isn't that awesome this is telling

a very fascinating story right like I I think that's very cool

and for all we know that's just like Madame Leota from a different direction or something we don't know um

I really would love to get a tour of this with an imagineer just like we got for Critter Club Critter Club because

that would be super cool um but there's so many unknowns and

hopefully there will be at the very least like a blog post or something that tells a little bit about this

and um here is the Madame Leota picture that's so cool yeah and

and it it's very recognizable if you recognize um her name sake I guess um

the original one but very cool I can't wait to go and walk in and see this

firsthand thank you Spencer for taking all these pictures in the video that we have up on the YouTube and the site we

couldn't do it without you and uh tell everybody the cat should be named to I

like it I think it's great all right so we have this new store it's themed we

have Critter club we have RIS Beres we have quite a few of these things so I thought it'd be fun if we

each were to pitch our own theme store in a new segment we're

call let's make some shops so in let's make some shops we are each going to pitch our own idea for a theme shop at

any Disney park we could possibly think of you don't have to have necessarily been there uh you're allowed to play

along in the comments as well but Katie if you were to pitch a shop themed to

something it could be even replacing something that already exists with something new what would you

choose that's a very hard decision um I mean here why did I feel

like I almost went into like a beauty page answer here at the Disneyland Resort we have so many excellent shops

that is such a hard thing to choose from

um this is harder than I thought it was gonna be okay I'll do mine while you think go for it all right I don't know

where exactly this would go like I kind of have a feeling I know where it would go or it could go and this be at the

fantasy land tont toown station for the main or for the uh Disneyland railroad I

think you need a train store not like Mickey and Minnie's runaway Railway where it's all animated

you could have some of that stuff too but I would like to see a train store much like they used to have an

Epcot but this actually feels like you're in the like The Roundhouse or

something and or something having to do you know maybe an old uh train station

or something and it have like artwork and and and uh diagrams and pieces from

trains through the years and then they'd actually sell different scales of trains

and books and stuff like that as well because I think that would be super cool and I miss when they had it in Epcot

because that was one of the coolest things in the German Pavilion was you could see the train outside and you go

into the store and you could actually buy g-scale trains and cars and all that stuff so I think it'd be cool if you

could do that at Disneyland wouldn't have to be super big maybe you just replace the station that there now make

it a little bit more fantasy-ish like make it a little bit more um I don't

know classic as opposed to Toontown like I would lean into the fantasy land area of this and uh and then also make it a

little bit more I me almost like Dumbo is popping into head like Casey Jr all

that stuff yeah yeah yeah and um and maybe even have some like Disney trains that are G gauge or like actual physical

trains that you could put on uh physical model rails I like that your turn easy

oh you you have one now oh good it's so easy I had this the whole time the Embarcadero oh okay Across The

Little Mermaid yes I think we got the whole building got it including the

bathrooms you know how much they love to give up their bathrooms that's the bathroom where someone stole

my magic band okay I'm okay with getting rid of that bathroom okay there you go there you go but I think that we should have a proper Little Mermaid store I

think I think that's actually really smart yeah I think that we should get rid of this Pandora stuff I'm so sorry

Pandora but I think it has to be done um I think that we do like a proper Under

the Sea type feeling like we can do the same thing that the attraction does like you go in and the bubbles cover you with

a light type thing um but it is a true

themed store not just a this is merchandise you can get anywhere else in the resort I would love it to be a true

Little Mermaid there's plush there's clothes there's CDs it's 2024 no one has

CDs but you know what I mean um final yeah but getting this level of detail

and this level of attention and it would almost be like here you go Disney Ariel

thingamabobs it like her uh Cave all her Treasures

yeah um her who's it and what's it or you could make it the one that she

inevitably has in the castle with Eric exactly like could go that direction or their beach house because I'm sure they

have a beach house I think it'd be super fun super cute um and then honorable mention bring back them up at store at

Hollywood Studios which obviously is never goingon to happen new Muppet store for rock and roller coaster Muppet

Edition and again a true Muppet store not a this is merchandise we sell that's

actually the one I like better than all of them yeah I know um I while I was talking I went what am I saying that's

the one we all want but like the Muppet store as it was 10 years ago where it was actually Muppet merchandise it was

immersive I think that's the thing though is these new stores that we really like are immersive they're telling stories not just one story

multiple stories um there's details so every time you go in there's that repeatability factor of like oh there's

this here there and there's that that you didn't see last time like there's tons of stuff to

find and to to really like enjoy and you think of for for families with kids when

I was a kid those were one of the simple things that kept me entertained as we're waiting in line for something or wandering through something he like oh I

can look and find the random stuff in this the root you know the the rafters

or whatever because I always remember how great Mad Hatter was when I was a kid in fantasy land and there for $100

maybe he's 110 you could buy a silk top hat and I thought that was the coolest thing ever and I don't know that anybody

ever did but it was up above and you could see the silk Top Hat I thought that was a super cool thing there was um

a website when I was but we one um that might still exist and actually be really

funny if we somehow knew the people that were in charge of it but it was actually a website dedicated to hidden Mickey's

but that was not what I cared about on that website the fact there the things I cared about on the website was actually the hidden details facts and trivia so

you could go Land by land attraction by attraction and it would be like people could it wasn't like message boards but

people could write in like a tip of like oh if you look here you can see this

XYZ and that is where I really became a Disney Parks fan and where I became a

Disney fan in general was from that website specifically and other Disney fans saying oh you know if you ask a

cast member you can see the ER sign in Indiana Jones um and I could not see that for like 15 years and I was like

where is it until somebody shine a flashlight um helps you do need the flashlight it really you can't see it

otherwise um but it's stuff like that where it's almost like this storytelling

or these pieces of lore that's like passed down from Disney fan to Disney fan and that's the stuff that counts and

I will admit I almost like it better when it's not all over the Internet so that you can just Discover it like one

of the things we purposely don't do all the time on adaps is we don't post Hidden Mickey we don't post some of

those all of those little details like we'll post some of the bigger ones yeah but even in our article on uh mad Mota's

uh I forgot the name again right somewhere beyond um but even

on that store I kned a couple of things but there's lots that you can explore discover either in the pictures on the

video or if you're in in person in the store itself but those are our pitches

moving on to new movie news the Walt Disney Company surpassed five billion

dollar at the global box office this week and that is coming ahead of however

well Mufasa does however well the um what is it the

unknown movie is coming out on Christmas Day I'm forgetting the name at the moment but uh they got still movies to

go a lot of this is thanks to inside out to also uh Moana to Moana too but that's

not what I thinking it's Deadpool and Wolverine um but Moana 2 is is making uh waves as well and breaking breaking

records welome welome I will be shocked if they make it to six billion this year

but looking ahead to next year do you think they're going to hit this again um you got Captain like you got a

big Marvel movie coming out it looks like he got some good um Disney and

Pixar stuff coming out there's no Star Wars coming out like Star Wars I feel like is a health boost but they didn't

have that this year either true um I'm gonna say no okay because I think what's

doing it this year is the sequels and those are things that people know and love and so Deadpool and Wolverine it's

actually a Trilogy yeah um Moana two inside out two um even Mufasa it's a

prequel I think that there's a name recognition that that draws you in a little bit more it's a safety net it's

not a like Helio is next year yes ilio Elio yeah from Pixar I think

so that's a New Concept that is something that people are not familiar

with um Thunderbolts is next year also thanks okay Thunderbolt is next year um

so that means two potentially from I think there's I don't know that five billion is what's gonna happen but I

could be wrong so I think they've done it six times since 2010 or something

like that okay so that's basically about half of the time they hit it which I

don't know it's possible let's see um one of the interesting things though is

they've been talking about the successes and the challenges that the the Studios

have had and so Alan Bergman who's the co-chair of Disney entertainment did an interview this week actually Dana Walden

was there too but they did an interview that was really fascinating because they talked about the successes and the challenges that they've had at the big

big pictures of uh Disney plus series um one of the ones that they referenced was

the accolite and it not being renewed which I thought was interesting like I

didn't expect to be reading this as I'm going down this this article of like oh he's wait they're telling us this um one

because it was interesting to me that it wasn't just a Lucas film thing it was

like clearly this went all the way to the top like it was Alan Bergman I'm assuming Bob Iger probably Kathleen

Kennedy as well but it wasn't just a silo like I decide the future like it it

just shows how much teamwork goes into everything and um and his take on the

Acolyte and not being re renewed was the show's fine

they enjoyed it they thought it was great the numbers were decent at the beginning and the end but for what they

got they spent too much and so it was a real business decision of like hey for

this amount of money it's not a good Roi for our business model which I thought was

really fascinating um for them to admit and to say um and it really was a

very I don't know common sense I almost want to say like it was just a very this this is the amount uh that

that I think there was probably a number that they would have been like if you got it to this number and we'd have spent this much on this this series we'd

be doing another one and um it'll be very interesting to see because Skeleton Crew is out now and he didn't commit one

way or the other for the future of that so there's always that like Balancing Act I guess between creativity

uh popularity and then how much money it costs versus how many subscribers or

minutes they watch that brings them back in to pay for it and then you got Andor 2 which is also I'm assuming

ridiculously expensive coming up but Andor safe because it's only two seasons and they're done yeah but originally

wasn't it three no I was at the panel at Star Wars celebration okay where they said two

okay and they brought out dieo Luna and he said hola and everybody fell in love there you go it's true anyway what I

think about this is when you're making something for a streaming

service you know what you're doing you know what you're getting into you know that the profitability is not going to

be the same as if you were making a film I also think that this is the most

excited people have been about the Star Wars brand in a minute um I think that this is the um most organic new story

since Rogue one that people actually been excited about and in my world I'm like okay so making

another series wouldn't been profitable make a movie because you have people that are going to go see it you have

people that are very invested in this story you freaking teased Darth plag

just the wise so here's my theory on that I think you're

right I think you do make a movie maybe it doesn't hit all of the the notes or

the story lines that were happening in in the series but I think you either have a

different producer a different director but you need somebody and I actually

think this is something that all of Star Wars needs to work on and Marvel actually now I'm I'm speaking this other

than Agatha all along because I think they came in pretty under budget from what I or low budget but I think

practicality I do think there is a a strength that comes comes from being

limited because it forces you to be ingenuitive it forces you to to tighten up stories like it really does create I

think often a better project than when you can just keep blowing money at stuff and um I would love to see a follow-up

that's a movie um and maybe it's not as wide in scope but it you know it doesn't

need to be for where it's at now but um I do feel like there needs to be a

um almost a proof of concept of like oh yeah we can do this type of a series or

a movie without blowing a massive budget I just think the stranger is a very

interesting villain type character um and

again this is besides Rogue one I cannot think of

anything out of the Skywalker Saga that people have been this excited about and this like uh and or falls under the Rog

One Umbrella to me so that that counts well I think it had the most successful

if I remember correctly the most successful premiere on Disney plus of the year was for the acolyte I do agree

though when you look at he mentioned the numbers fell off a little bit in the next couple of episodes and then they

built back up at the end that's streaming that's streaming but also streaming baby but also they weren't as

good of episodes bada bing bada boom like I felt like they lost some some momentum and I do think there is

something to be said for um I think if you if You' have been a

little bit tighter on your budget I think maybe you don't have as many episodes but you have a tighter story

sure you know what else came in you know what came in under budget and also had episodes that I think could have been

cut AG all along oh I totally agree yeah I don't think it should have been a series I would have made that a movie

agath long oh yeah absolutely like that would have been a really cool movie and I think you even see a future for that

more with that story uh there was definitely at least two episodes of agath along that I went well we could

have not done that yeah and I think that happened for Acolyte and I think we might end up saying that happened for skeleton key because I think that's the

issue with anything that we serialize is that not every episode is going to be

top tier and I think that's also why Moana 2 was a good idea yeah because also I looked it up real quick um Andor

originally was pitched as a five EP five season uh series and then by the time they got to you they were to uh two he

decided it was going to be two by the time they got to you for me it was you

said by the time they got to you when you were at it I wasn't you know I wasn't gonna say that I know I I'm very

I remember it a lot he REM it I was on a media event the other morning I think it

was last Thursday or something it was Brighton early though and uh we're GNA talk about basketball tonight

something I know nothing about um never thought that would be happening on daps magic or on Geeks corner but we're gonna

hit it really quick as we go into Geeks Corner Plus in just under a minute but dunk the Halls is happening on Christmas

Day at nine o'clock I believe um 9:00 am coming 12 o'clock 12 o'clock east

coast time but this is a virtual they're calling it an ALT cast but it's taking a

basketball game and replicating it with anim characters that are basically

avatars of the players and then throwing Mickey Mouse and friends in it and the

technology behind it is amazing they've got story elements they're throwing in here and there daisies is going to be

one of the uh the commentators commentators on the sideline like I think it's going to be at least worth

watching a little bit and seeing the uh halftime show which is a slam dunk uh

competition with Mickey and Goofy and all of them uh I don't know if this will be good or not

but it looks like it could be really interesting well it's kind of in the vein of like the um Toy Story football

game or um Nickelodeon has been doing this but to the next level exactly like

that's where this gets really interesting um and I'm fascinated to

maybe tune in for a minute or two there least see the social media posts like I think they'll have some really great

things coming out of that um we also did an article today on the the top five holiday movies on Disney plus because

this is the week where you watch them I feel like for a lot of people um but there's also a ton of series and

specials and all of those things um Christmas with Walt Disney is popping

into my head if I got the name right but uh what is your favorite thing on Disney

plus because it's very easy to be like oh yeah Muppet Christmas Carol or uh home alone or Miracle on 34 Street but

like what's your favorite since we're running out of time

I want to same up at Christmas Carol because that to me is not Muppet letters

from Santa That's not on Disney plus oh it's not I thought that one was I think that's on Prime no that's a very merry

Muppet oh boy we did watch that one that was interesting don't don't necessarily need to do that but that's okay it was

very fun very weird it was unique yeah it was kind of amazing with some of the stuff that was on that but yeah anyway

favorite I I would say up at Christmas Carol okay sticking with that okay what do you gonna say I mean I like that one a lot I

like uh Home Alone a lot I love The Great Christmas Light Fight I think is is just one of those ingenious one

there's a bunch of uh food um competitions that are on there too that are are kind of fun and then I also like

kind of the old like the the Walt Disney stuff and the um I love the cartoons

from back in the day the it's like holidays at Disneyland through the decades or something yeah I I like that

one a lot yeah in some of the documentaries because it talks about the star on the matter horn true true bring
