5:27
welcome to Geeks corner I'm mret daps I'm Katie and this is the first rainy Wednesday of March
5:35
2025 what a what a weird bunch of signifiers I don't know it's been writing pretty good today so uh and I
5:40
can hear it so why not I thought it was a good one sure it is been a very busy
5:47
week since we were last in the corner we have had uh Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival we have had um
5:55
Disneyland after dark 90s night we're going to talk about both of these
6:01
tonight but before we do that there's something very important we need to talk about thanks dadd thank you Mr dks
6:10
man that is what we need to talk about and I've made it so it goes back to the US instead of having to push a button
6:17
you're so smart we're moving up every week it's getting better and better so smart um all right
6:23
so last week we got a new Muppet being ref uh recognized on
6:30
um not thrown into a fire or beaten up or run over or ground up or exploded or
6:40
I can't think of anything else right now none of those things happened to Beaker last week poor little guy all that happened to Beaker is he was recognized
6:46
as the Muppet of the week as the Muppets celebrate their 70th anniversary by
6:51
honoring 70 of their closest friends that are also Muppets um did anybody
6:58
guess the beaker last week I'm I'm just curious about that what if I threw something at you no like I'm just
7:04
curious about that what if let's play like physics right like what if I threw
7:10
something at you it would hurt a would it I think so all right um so what we
7:18
need to do though is decide who is going to be the Muppet that's honored this
7:23
week I see an uncle deadle lips I see a uh a sweds sure
7:30
and Clocky says he's sticking with sweds until he's right that's a good way to play it I should do that with Eugene but
7:36
I just don't think they're going to pick Eugene I do you think they're gonna pick Eugene that's the real question if they
7:44
pick Eugene uhhuh I will go get him up at
7:49
tattoo huh yeah okay I'll do it um not
7:55
last week two weeks ago that was Katie I know two weeks ago um okay so stay out
8:01
of this that's actually so crazy like hey so that's crazy that you so who do
8:07
you think it's this week I literally already said lips okay so clearly you don't listen you clearly don't listen
8:12
when I talk that's that's it actually insane I will be louder until you listen
8:19
Okay and we can't do anything about it because we don't have a sound tech yeah
8:25
um I don't know who I want to go with um yeah who do you want to go with you're always
8:31
right what um I just got I just got an ey no not an not an eyebrow that is not
8:38
what I got I got one eye slightly closed like a I don't know how to do that
8:45
actually yeah but you did it you did it it's like when your nostrils flare leave me out oh you know
8:53
that word too okay yeah I'm Mr deps I know words words are good words are good
9:00
um that's actually so crazy did they do Zoot already I don't know but I kind of liked your whole like um you know that
9:07
like you have this thing in front of you I know you're looking for Muppet inspiration behind you but I know but I
9:13
I don't think it's any of these I saws on the front so oh was that how you picked yeah they did do Janice I
9:19
remember that they've done scooter uhhuh did they do Dr Teeth Dr Teeth would be
9:26
fun oh Yol laa is International women's
9:33
month oh wait hold on are you switching I
9:39
could do Dr teeth and you I'm unpicking lips I need to pick a Woman by lips I oh my God so you're going to pick
9:46
a woman every week this this month yeah hold on that actually is probably smart
9:51
if they've thought of that Googling women Muppets do Muppets have a gender yeah oh
9:57
they do well some of them do women Muppets recurring female Muppets
10:03
perfect this is exactly what I was looking for not Denise I am not picking Denise but it could be Denise I was
10:10
actually H having that in the back of my head last week after the show I was like what about Denise Miss Piggy would make
10:15
sense and it would make sense if it was this week because it's the first week because you couldn't put her on the
10:20
second third or fourth week cuz she would be offended I am going to say mhm
10:30
this is difficult say Beverly plume oh that's a good one
10:39
yeah okay I like it and I have I have one in my pocket for next week cool will
10:47
I forget by then absolutely I will 100% have forgotten by
10:52
then but that's kind of like their charm you could you could schedule an email to yourself for next Tuesday night but
10:59
actually it won't be next week unless we do one on the daps I don't know the daps
11:04
will be next week though so we'll see who's spam is that another Pig yeah what does
11:10
it look like H I'm I'm assuming it's from The
11:15
Muppet Show I don't remember all right I'm trying we have Hada hamerson there
11:21
we go yeah it's a bayat type thing uh that sounds like uh Muppet's tonight then um Muppet's tonight there you go
11:27
you're so right didn't get to watch that as much cuz it was on the Disney Channel and we didn't have the Disney Channel so
11:33
I was kind of out of luck of pigs watch that somebody wrote it that's good
11:39
that's good somebody wrote it and somebody watched it all right we went on Friday to Disney California Adventure
11:45
where we experienced the first day of the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival and it was a very busy day
11:52
we started the day listening to The Sensational singers uh sing
11:57
Skyfall you know and to be fair it was super windy and things
12:02
were falling on me it the sky kind of was falling yes but what other interesting
12:07
songs uh what was the one well ain't no mountain high that's the that was the
12:13
one I was thinking of but that's like guardians Guardians was right there sure okay yeah okay like totally got that I'm
12:18
trying to think of that might be the only one that had a remote Disney connection I'm trying to think of the one that I was like besides
12:25
Skyfall uh what was the first one they did I don't remember they almost
12:31
accidentally sang it twice they were it was when they were
12:36
going to do Ain't No Mountain High Enough uhuh and he did the the wrong
12:42
start well no he keyed them in wrong oh and then he led them in and one of the
12:48
girls goes that's not the right one yeah that's funny and then they had to start over cuz they were repeating whatever
12:53
that their second song was I can't remember at the moment but anyway it was weird I liked them though they're very
13:00
talented that that intro was for a No Mountain High Enough though is what the song ended up being that yes that was
13:06
the Mis start because I remember editing that out yes um anyway they were very
13:11
good they were very funny I just was like huh I don't see any Disney connection here it was very fun though
13:17
um so the way they did it this year for the media preview part last year the media
13:23
um event part like where they actually brief us and share information was at the end of the day
13:29
and it was cold it was windy also and for the most part everybody showed up
13:35
for 5 10 minutes watched the presentation and left and um which is
13:41
great because that means we got more food and like there was no lines it was really fun and we got to talk with
13:47
really cool people like Chef Jimmy amazing we even got to talk with him on
13:52
Friday but the downside of it was is we walked into it already full because we've been reviewing food all day and it
13:58
was kind of one of things Disney being Disney took all the feedback from last
14:03
year and was like hey let's do it at the beginning of the day hey let's give them more information and let's organize it
14:09
that there's different stations you go to for a 10minute I think it was something presentation at each of
14:16
seven one of them being meeting a a rat either Emil or Remy um rat which is
14:22
still funny to me but and you had to get it hole punched at each station yes and then once you've done that you could go
14:29
to pick up your swag which was a baseball hat um a plate and a sip and
14:34
saver uh pass and the plate is what magic key holders get when they purchase a sip and saber pass but um what was
14:42
your favorite actually tell us what the seven were if you can remember okay so is the character meet and greet well
14:48
hold on okay let me go around yeah do it uh character meet and greet was one uh
14:55
so it was either Remy or Emil then there was a cooking demonstration for of the I
15:00
was getting there of the Bea mac and cheese um so that was super fun and I
15:06
was also like what shocked me is yeah like the water's already boiling and stuff but like making that dish in it
15:12
was about 7 minutes I was like and talking through it the whole time and talking through it the whole time it was
15:18
impressive like blending the salsa all that super cool
15:23
um one over from was that one over from that crown and hops mhm okay one that
15:29
was crown on hops they have uh craft beer um it is a blackowned women-owned veteran-owned business which was Super
15:36
Rad um and I saw their beer in Total Wine yesterday two days ago whatever day
15:41
that was cool then one down from them was Bodkin wines which was I will be
15:46
getting into that later one of my absolute favorites uh the originator of
15:52
sparkling Savon bon in America mhm uh next to that we're at three right now no
15:59
we're that was four that's four okay so five was the uh merchandise for food and
16:07
wine yep I'm really good at this by the way you're doing great six oh I'm nailing this six was the uh food that is
16:14
available for the Food and Wine Festival um including a big fish including a whole fish with the bones and the
16:21
eyeballs and everything um so now it's two festivals in a row you can get a big fish and uh where you can get some of
16:28
that with a chef available to talk about it and then the last one was Chef Lewis right yes yes um and the last one was a
16:38
um pastry demonstration with uh it was ex the Sue pastry chef Stephanie uh she
16:47
was making a Snickers the macaron that everybody loves Mickey Mouse one the Mickey Mouse Snickers macaron presented
16:54
by Mars um and I will say a really fun connection is that P3 Chef Stephanie and
17:00
my sister went to the same culinary school in Pasadena that no longer exists
17:05
that is true uh favorite one H Bodkin yeah yeah and why uh he was a very nice
17:14
and personable guy he had a very interesting story about uh his family
17:20
and really what kind of drives his passion um and like stories are great
17:26
stories are fun MH the the wine was actually very good yeah no it was it was it was a home run all the way around I
17:32
thought he did a great job um I would either pick that or the the mac and cheese demonstration because that one
17:39
was so um it really made the line anyone can
17:45
cook come to life because you watched him do it and you're like oh yeah I can do that and and you could see other
17:50
people going like oh yeah I could do that like nothing in it was super hard and he gave a couple tips what you hear
17:55
on the Food Network all the time is like give a couple tips as you're walking through what you're doing and why so like salt your water and don't
18:02
overprocess your avocado and and veggie or and herbs because it'll turn brown
18:07
like there was there was good stuff put the lime in with your avocado uh also what I mean what really
18:14
did it for for Mr daps and what's really gotten me into trouble is that uh he had
18:20
the basket that you can put your pot like in your pot so you can just dump the noodles in it's like a CER It's a
18:26
pasta basket it is that what has aici it's a mesh pasta basket and they're on Amazon yeah so see how I just said that
18:33
this is what's gotten me into trouble is that ever since we watched that Mr daps has been like we need yeah I've been
18:40
researching them a lot pasta basket so we went to all seven of those locations
18:45
then we got our Sip and saber our homor pass we did eat the beer and mac and cheese the uh spam Missi fried rice yep
18:54
which spam let's and uh and then also we had the uh I don't
19:02
remember what it's called the uh corn chip pie yes the Corn Chip pie which is in a uh chip bag yeah it's what I think
19:11
is really funny is they do the chopped thing of they're like it is a corn chip thing it's in a Fritos bag yeah it's a
19:17
bag of Fritos flat out um there's no covering the brand it then we went to the park and we started trying More
19:24
Foods cuz we just didn't have enough with those three uh we tried a bunch of
19:29
foods what is a standout to you that's maybe not your favorite but one if you
19:35
could have it right now right here on the set you would like to try again or eat again Cafe OES oh okay you want
19:43
dessert it was super super yummy um I I would eat and I said this in my article
19:50
uh because I did say it to a chef which you know leave me out of this um I did say
19:56
that I would eat it by the uh bucket cuz I love that spami fried rice just so
20:02
much um but if we're going dessert which I'm in a little dty mood right now little sweet treat uh that chest Lees
20:09
cake I love ches Lees very good all right and I would get the sirloin Jimmy
20:14
Cherry mac and cheese it was delicious I would eat it every day if I could during the festival but that might not work out
20:22
so well for me anyway we've got lots of coverage going up about the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine
20:28
Festival up daps magic.com including some videos and we've got more videos coming throughout the month cuz honestly
20:34
we all know what the real highlight of the festival is and that is the return of Sauron over California
20:40
but that's not what we're gonna talk about right now instead we are going to play a surprise
21:00
not so magical markup with its new opener that was so
21:07
good dsy once in a while once in a while all right last night was the first of
21:14
two Disneyland after dark 90s night and the moment we saw this come to life we
21:20
knew that this was going to be something special we knew it would be and not so
21:28
magical we we knew yes so this is what we're talking about this is the power line
21:35
Max it's not technically a popcorn bucket they're calling it just a bucket
21:40
but it's a popcorn bucket um in the park you can mobile order it in fact I think
21:46
it's pretty much the only way you can M over it mobile order it uh
21:51
during uh Disneyland after dark 90s night so just tomorrow night uh 32 49
21:59
and I think there's a tax and whatever so it makes it about $35 uh this is pretty impressive I think
22:08
like as I saw this in person last night and um and I will
22:13
admit I went and checked this morning and it was already on eBay of
22:19
course and as the day has gone by it's more places on eBay no way
22:27
shocking I know so what is the markup because you can't
22:33
go by um uh you can't go by the bidding or
22:39
because that could go anywhere and none of the bids were going to be done in time so I want to know from you and I want to know from whoever's watching
22:46
what you think the not so magical markup is for the power line Max $72 bucket and
22:54
I will say this also just just to keep it
23:02
interesting this might get eclipsed by the I almost guarantee it's going to be
23:07
eclipsed by the bids oh by the bids I thought you said by the bit no the bids were changing all day and um and this is
23:16
also sudden death so there's only one round of the not so magical markup tonight $72 $72 okay I'm going to keep
23:24
saying $72 $72 if one of you says
23:29
uh 71 you're dead to me okay we got 108 okay from Bailey we can work with 108 we
23:35
can work with 108 um I think I think people on eBay are hoping to work with
23:40
108 oh that makes me nervous oh my God this makes me nervous so you said 72 I said 72 72 that is the number that I saw
23:47
com to me in Vision 110 okay 95 95 from
23:52
Roger that's good that's good okay this is going to be good get in your bids um
23:58
should we should we say the actual not yet not yet Tiana Tiana what do you think Tiana tell them what does she
24:06
think that's what she thinks she she sniffed the microphone oh okay okay so that's was that a dollar does that mean
24:12
a dollar she dollar prices R she said a dollar all right one sniff are we ready
24:18
so what I did to find this and and this is not the way I normally do normally I
24:23
pick the first one that I see okay but all of those didn't actually have a markup it was just bid only okay so I
24:31
went for the first one that had the markup just so we're keeping things fair and above balance so are we ready sure
24:37
the actual market price for this Powerline Max bucket
24:49
$250 and this one actually had lower bids than others that were
24:57
on on eBay and this was I think so I redid this graphic like four times and
25:04
um this was just the last one at 7 o'clock um but yeah so there were there
25:13
were bids already in the $200 range when I was looking the interesting thing is the day started with just one of these
25:19
up and I was like oh the game might not work cuz it's bid only and then by late
25:24
this afternoon there was a bunch of them it was fantastic wow yeah anyway so that was just one of
25:31
the many offerings at Disneyland after dark 90s night and uh we experienced a lot of things which were a lot of
25:36
characters a lot of entertainment um we did not try the foods we did not buy the merchandise I did see it though um what
25:45
was your absolute favorite thing of last night at Disneyland after
25:50
dark 90s on parade and why it was so good it was
25:55
such a fun Blast from the Past um you also got to see fun remnants of other things in entertainment that you love
26:02
like uh the bikes from viavi um the uh the the
26:11
gazel there were some great costumes in there Sensational yeah yeah okay so yeah
26:16
there is there is stuff from Sensational stuff you might have recognized from parade of the of Dreams um there was
26:22
stuff from Hercules there was uh well I guess the the ones that were recognized
26:30
was Lion King Aladdin Hercules or uh Mulan and then Hercules they were like
26:35
the four main sections and it was hands down the best uh the best part of the night like
26:43
I thought it was their best offering and you could tell that they'd really put some love and care into it and it really
26:48
was the finest tribute to the 90s of the night as well also we have not seen a
26:54
parade stop like that since Parade of Dreams uh
26:59
I wouldn't put it on par with pray to dreams but yeah we haven't seen a show stop they did one for um uh one of the
27:07
other Disneyland after darks because I was in the wrong place last year 10-minute show stop uh maybe not quite that long but it
27:15
was I was like very shocked by how extensive yeah the actual uh which they
27:21
kind of need to do because otherwise the music would have been almost impossible to put together um and then it was all
27:27
held together as they're moving along by a song from Tokyo Disneyland I think it was oh yeah um that makes sense yeah and
27:36
um but it was good like it was a really good offering uh there's a couple things to know if you are going tomorrow night
27:42
you're going to want to go over to the fantasy land theater promptly at 6:30 maybe even a little bit before uh
27:48
because they give out wristbands that unless you go back there you don't know uh that give you access to go into one
27:55
of two tracks one track takes you into a line for Huey Dey and Lou the other track
28:01
takes you into a line for dark wi duck and uh you have to pick which
28:06
one or whatever one you can get um by the time I got there there was nothing
28:13
um but I in my incredible luckiness I guess like I
28:18
happened to walk to the wrong way and they're like well go stand over there and maybe you'll get in and you can wander around and then another lady's
28:25
like no that's not going to work and then a manager came came by and she's like I have I think it was eight extra
28:32
wristbands for the 8:00 set which was in like 10 minutes and we had a few people
28:38
with us so we used four of those and um and so because of that we were able to go meet um dark que duck which was cool
28:46
and then also Launchpad and uh Scrooge McDuck and everybody gets to meet them
28:51
that's like the second stop but um it's like Dark Wings out for a while and then
28:56
the line turns into to um Hy Dey and Lou for a while and then uh Launchpad and
29:03
screw her out all night like they just keep coming back and forth and they don't go anywhere but uh it was it was
29:09
one of those things that that if you knew it it was probably okay but if you
29:14
didn't know it it probably wasn't and I feel like people that have gone to more Disneyland after dark events probably
29:21
had some clue of like oh they might do something early back at Fantasy Land theater but you wouldn't have known
29:26
about the uh the wristbands or anything like that they also cut them off you which was interesting when you got up to
29:32
the part of the line and I think it was to avoid like sh people getting back in line oh or whatever I don't know it was
29:39
very interesting um they uh they also had a um what was it the rad review that was at pirates
29:48
that was some 90s and 2000s songs that were sung and um this is my fault but it
29:54
it's true like it's it was a fair observation is it wasn't all 90s music
30:00
that was performed last night or the issue was if the way I have said this story to
30:07
multiple people and they've been like what on Earth is wrong with you the problem is they played Yeah by Usher I
30:13
knew for a fact that was not a '90s song I knew for a fact that was an early 2000s song Because Yeah by Usher not
30:21
'90s if you had played anything else off of confessions I would have been like okay maybe this could be ' 90s cuz it
30:27
has that ' 90s r feel they then played Hella Good by no doubt I would not have
30:32
questioned it before they played yeah but after they played y by Usher I went
30:38
Hella Good by No Doubt and and really like the the thing is with all of this is they bumped all the way up to 2004 or
30:45
six four with Vanessa Carlton there was a bunch of stuff but um but there's a ton of good music from the 90s so um I I
30:52
just I just think uh there was a lot of stuff that they they could have done to keep but in like play Within the rules
31:00
like or within the sandbox or whatever um they had a bunch of good characters out there we've got those going up on
31:06
our YouTube channel bless you uh the other highlight I think of the night was
31:11
over in Tomorrowland with Goofy and Powerline Max or Max depending on on
31:17
what he was wearing at any given moment they did a fantastic job I felt like with keeping that area um exciting and
31:25
fun and letting everybody see Max let everybody seeing power line Max letting everybody see Goofy and um really giving
31:33
the opportunity to not miss out I guess like I think
31:39
they're too popular for a meet and greet which we learned the last time for a '90s night and this was a good way to
31:45
let everybody experience it I think it was significantly better than people
31:50
waiting potentially ours M uh we would have had another wristband scenario um
31:58
absolutely uh but it's better than people waiting hours and then um what happened at the 2019 90s night was that
32:04
people waited uh three four hours basically the entire event and they were like I want to meet power line Max and
32:11
then they got up to the front of the line and it was Goofy and I can only imagine how sad goofy felt first his son
32:17
doesn't want to go on a road trip with him now guests don't want to meet him um uh Roger makes an interesting point he
32:22
says music from the 90s is also from the early 2000s according to radio people but not him
32:28
so I think so this is something we talked about in the car I think ' 80s music transfers into '90s music because
32:35
there's absolutely music that I I just don't think you can go retroactively I think you can carry music into a new
32:41
decade I don't think you can carry music backwards into a decade so to me early
32:47
2000s music is not '90s but late 80s music can feel a little 90s because of the and I think you should just play it
32:54
by by the years and actually pick there is so much music really every year like
33:00
just you got it what 1990 to 1999 do it share share with me your complaints or
33:05
you could do 91 through 2000 like I'd be okay with that too um Mr D's complaint last night was that he heard no 90s
33:13
country there was no 90s country uh there was no of like the big stuff I was
33:18
in high school in in the 90s and like most of the songs that were popular
33:24
during that time I did not hear can I have one complaint one song one song I
33:30
would have liked to hear sure got a Party Like It's 1999 yes I mean and
33:35
honestly if they played class of 1999 that would have been hilarious now that we're speaking about that but especially
33:42
if that was the walk out music cuz party over we're out of time but also think of how many iconic uh Disney Pop Songs came
33:49
out in the 90s like Can You Feel the Love Tonight uh Beauty and the Beast Beauty and the Beast A Whole New World
33:56
God help the outcast I guess not they did do uh the one thing from yeah but
34:03
reflection I guess is where I'm was going from ref like there's there's a lot of good songs that you could pull
34:08
from the 90s and um or instead of doing pop music do '90s Disney music like I'll
34:15
make a man out of you I can't just can't wait to be king one jump uh you know
34:21
like we could have had so much more Aladdin I bet you could do I mean you could easily get the hour playlist out
34:27
of just Disney music and Disney Channel music you could probably also get the
34:33
entire event without a repeat of good Disney songs for the whole event anyway that was just my minor like my critique
34:41
was just kind of like I think you can do this like I I think it's part of the creative challenge of making something
34:47
like this is if it's 90s night make it 90s night uh welcome to Geeks corer plus if you have any questions or comments that you'd like us to respond to let us
34:54
know in the comments and we will hit those and uh for now we're going to keep talking about Disneyland after dark so
35:01
my question is m i I feel like for me 90s night this time was kind of
35:07
somewhere in the middle of Disneyland after darks whereas the one six years
35:13
ago MH was probably towards the top um
35:18
what is now your favorite Disneyland after dark ' 80s night ' 80s night okay
35:24
which February of 2020 [Music] um that we had a great lineup That year
35:32
actually we had um princess night in January we had sweethearts night in February we had ' 80s night in late
35:37
February but what made 80s night so great' 80s night was so fun cuz there was this really cool Vibe about it that
35:43
was great viopolis that was killer the Ewoks were so good I think just the
35:50
photo ops like in some ways that was the one where Star Wars felt the most Star Wars Star Wars
35:58
yeah it that because Star Wars nights are super fun but when you're embracing
36:04
a lot of Star Wars contextual like you cannot ignore what was happening when these Star Wars movies came out and so
36:10
having Star Wars with' 80s night was just so fun because it was like oh this
36:15
is this is Star Wars this is Empire Strikes Back and Star Tours and like they had a lot ofun oh God that's where
36:21
DJ Rex was that was that was really cool um that was a good event no I thought
36:26
that one was really good and I think the very first one was easily the best one like at that one is never going to
36:32
be I'm sorry it was um I had a work party okay uh I I couldn't get anybody
36:40
to go with me so I went on my own uh I would have been there I what what was that retro night was that what they
36:46
called it throwback night throwback night I was like I don't remember the name of it I just remember where there was Zoro it wasn't Zoro Mickey Mouse
36:53
asoro I thought it was Goofy like no it was great they had the three Fair and they had fireworks and they like it Blue
37:00
Fairy and the lines were nonexistence like it was just a it was one of those
37:05
things where I think they really wanted to make sure it worked so they went all out for it and they under promised and
37:11
overd delivered and they didn't have too many people in the park and and it was fantastic I will
37:18
say um the Disneyland after darks they are more popular now people are figuring
37:24
out how to do them if you're going to go make sure you have a plan make sure you have a these are my top
37:30
three or four things I really want to do because you're probably really only
37:35
going to get to do if you're actually like lining up and fully committed to doing a four or five things tops um
37:43
there is no way to go and meet every character and get to eat like we don't eat any of the food just because the
37:50
time itself is prohibitive um we don't do the merchandise because we heard from friends last night that the line was an
37:56
hour and a half like that's just the commitment you make because that's whatever is important to you um and if
38:02
you're going to if you're going to Mobile order or you're going to get food during one of these events you need a mobile order earlier in the day probably
38:08
because that's what everybody else is doing as well I personally would not let them do that if I were um in charge like
38:14
I think you make the the the game completely fair for the new people and
38:20
the people that know like I think that would be helpful but what do I know I'm I'm just you're just a guy withs but we
38:27
are running out of time Katie what should people do you should go to dbsm magic.com check out all the Disney and
