How Imagineering Created the Marvel-Inspired Cars Land Posters

There are many fun details to be found throughout the Disney parks on any given day. For many months, there were some really fun Marvel-inspired Cars posters found in Cars Land at the end of the road where a new restroom was being built along the walkway to Avengers Campus. These posters received quite a lot of attention from fans who loved the crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pixar’s Cars.

At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Imagineer Mike Quinn took some time to share how these posters came to be. He also teased what the future could be for these posters, as well. In this panel on the Imagineering Horizons pavilion stage, Quinn shares the creative process, design challenges, and clever Easter eggs hidden within the Marvel-inspired Cars movie posters. Watch it here:

Key Highlights from the Imagineering Marvel/Cars Mashup Presentation:

  • Casting MCU Characters as Cars: The thought process behind turning Captain America into a 1940s Tucker Torpedo, Groot into a forklift, and Drax into a custom-painted monster truck.
  • Designing Without CG Models: How the Imagineering team custom-crafted every single car design, texture, and expression from scratch without using existing film assets.
  • Clever Visual Gags & Easter Eggs: Creative details like Nick Fury’s cracked-windshield “eyepatch,” Black Widow’s iridescent paint job, and nods to Disney’s Planes.
