Alien Swirling Saucers in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is going to receive some new magic. This new magic will be tied to the newest film in its franchise, Toy Story 5. Imagineers are hard at work on this new magic, which will debut on Friday, September 25th. This will also introduce Lilypad from Toy Story 5 to the backyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. She will join Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear. Lilypad, the frog-shaped smart tablet, has a mission to connect friends. She will be using her tech to do this with an all-new soundtrack for Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s Jams!
DJ Lilypad will bring this new lineup of tunes that feature reimagined Toy Story classics along with brand-new songs that were written for this attraction. This will create even more re-rideability. With Lilypad, the maestro behind the music, she connects with the internet to remix and mash up different tunes and utilize a variety of music styles and genres.
For this new soundtrack, Imagineers went to Nashville. There, they worked with world-class musicians as they recorded multiple genres including pop, country, EDM, and alt-rock. “We wanted to think about the music in a completely new way—taking beloved songs from the Toy Story films, and create catchy new original songs, that are singable, sincere and a little cheesy, as one is about Pizza Planet,” said Thomas Niederhiser, Senior Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering.
There are multiple iconic songs in the Toy Story franchise. Songs like You’ve Got a Friend in Me, We Belong Together, and I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away will be reimagined with this update as they get infused with new swirling energy. These arrangements are being created solely for this attraction.
Along with the remixed Toy Story classic tunes, there will also be some new tunes added in. This includes the Pizza Planet Promo in-story theme song for the classic pizza arcade in the franchise and Spin It Back, Lilypad. This song is a tribute to the newest backyard toy.
“Collaborating with our partners at Pixar Animation Studios to write for these characters and expand their stories is just pure joy,” said Geoff Line, Senior Story Lead at Walt Disney Imagineering. “We played with these toys as kids. Now we get to play with them as Imagineers. It doesn’t get better than that.” And with Lilypad as DJ, plenty of your favorite toys, like ‘Partysaurus Rex,’ are sure to get more airtime—err, playtime.
For those who aren’t aboard Alien Swirling Saucers, Lilypad is DJing for all honorary toys in the backyard as well. Off the ride, guests can enjoy singing along with DJ Lily as she will hype and introduce tunes from her playlist. She will also be providing a variety of entertainment between the songs. She will also doodle on her drawing app for guests to guess, offer puzzles to be unscrambled, and even show “home videos” of some favorite Toy Story pals!
For over thirty years, the Toy Story franchise has been delighting fans around the world. It is a story that connects with fans. With Toy Story 5, new generations of fans are connecting and building memories with this franchise. The arrival of Lilypad in the backyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will just add to that. Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s James will arrive on Friday, September 5. This is just two days after Toy Story 5 arrives on Disney+ on September 23rd.
